McTiernan Actually Doing Die Hard 4?

Just last week we reported that Len Wiseman was tapped to direct DIE HARD 4. Now comes the news that John McTiernan, that franchise's main man, is set to direct a movie called DEADLY EXCHANGE. Ummm...why isn't McT just tackling the next John McClane opus? Does the studio not want him? I thought it might have had something to do with him pleading guilty in the Pellicano scandel but here he is, preparing to direct a movie that revolves around a terrorist who hunts down an FBI agent who assassinated his father ten years earlier. It's difficult to tell what the final product will look and feel like but I'm getting some vague whiffs of WITH A VENGEANCE. Luckily, though, the script comes from Ron Shusett and Ian Rabin, the former of which had a hand in writing ALIEN and TOTAL RECALL. Filming is expected to begin later this summer. McTiernan is also attached at this point to direct the action-adventure CRASH BANDITS starring Hayden Christensen.

As some of you know, Die Hard with A Vengeance started as a film called Simon Says, but was altered to be the second Die Hard sequel.
Like Joblo says, I'm getting a vague feeling that his new film is not what it appears to be.
Maybe it's just wishful thinking. If theres one thing the man knows how to do, it's make a Die Hard film.



That in addition to the fact that Willis said only about a week ago that he didn't actually know when DH4 was happening. That's why I was suspicious about the news about the Underworld director.

No, it wasn´t all that, but, like i said, McTiernan is a great director, i think he could pull it off.

The man made Die Hard and Predator (and more, but this two are the ones in touch with the Cimmerian), with the right vision and script, i know it would make a great Conan movie.

He's had a few stinkers recently but I wouldn't mind seeing him try to get Die Hard going again.

I'm not even familiar with his other films.
I do know that his 2 Die Hard movies are a couple of my absolute favorites, and it hurts my brain to even consider that the director of Underworld might take over.

I hope this hunch is right

McTiernan should make Die Hard 4.0.....or Predator 3. Heck, give him Robert Rodriguez's Predators script and let him do that.

The latest AICN script review for Die Hard 4 sounds very relevent to today's times.....hacking, terrorism, martial law, apocalyptic visuals, Goverment control, Big Brother society, and so on. It's like every major world issue rolled into one. Sounds like it could be more than just another sequel (having said that, only Die Harder was really 'just another sequel' - With a Vengeance is great).

I hope this is true. McTiernan's Die Hard movies were awesome. Die Hard 2 pails in comparison to them. And Predator is pure 80s scifi/action awesomeness.

I just looked up his imdb page and it seems every other movie or so he makes sucks.
But I hold quite a few of his movies in very high esteem.
Predator, and The Hunt for Red October to name a couple.

Yeah it sounds good Kevin only if they manage to make it a Die Hard movie, and what I mean by that is. Make sure you keep John McClane that everyman character who just finds himself trapped in the middle of this ****, and he just gets the **** kicked out of him hence the title Die Hard.

I'm normally against these 'old stars have one last desperate crack at their most successful character' films - Terminator 3, Basic Instinct 2. But with McClane, the fact that he's past his prime, out of date and has apparently the whole world against him only makes the film sound more appealing. It works for the character.

I'm not against those stories but it might have to do with I want be a writer so I look at these characters and there's usually something left you can do with them, the problem is most of the time they just go and retread the **** they did 10-20 years ago ala Basic Instinct 2. BUt I definately agree, awesome **** seeing a guy past his prime. Termiantor 3 wasn't that bad from whaT I remember hten again I haven't watched it since it came out, it might not hold up that well today...

I just watched T3 the other night, and it is a pretty good movie.
The problem is that T2 is an amazing movie. One of the best action flicks ever.
If you follow that with anything less than a terrific film, of course it's gonna be a disappointment.

If t3, wasn't a Terminator movie people would cut it some slack.

Not long enough to me.

There are about five different cuts of T2 and none of them are long enough.
