Interested to see if this is something people would be interested in this as I fancied having a go at running one

Rules would be simple

  1. First we select a tier (Superhuman Tier - Street Level) for example and then select 32 characters from that tier
  2. Those characters are then randomly drawn against each other until we have all 16 match-ups
  3. Votes will be opened for a specific match for a few days or a week (open to suggestions)
  4. In single elimination bracket style one will progress from each match-up until we have our Tier Champion!

So what tier do you think would be the best choice for the tournament?

I love this kind of stuff. Can cover all the tiers if the first is successful. Maybe start with street and work up from there.

Why not ? Sounds fun, but a couple of observations - some semi-serious and some silly.

1. Captain America automatically wins his tier due to a mixture of skills, experience, low level superhuman ability and a ton of plot armour.

2. I think you'll struggle to get more than 8 for your top 2 tiers - you might have to mix it up a bit ( e.g. there are certain powerhouse characters who can defeat transcendent tier characters in the right circumstances)

3. For determining match ups a difficulty you face is that some characters' powersets are not designed to deal with others ( e.g. Ghost Rider v Hulk - kind of like old D&D monsters who could only be hurt by magic weapons. So Ghost Rider v Abomination would be a runaway for GR but GR vs Mordo or even Malekith might be a different story)

4. Thanos is a huge unknown, you might have to wait for your upper tier tournament until after Infinity War, to gauge Thanos power ( with and without the infinity stones). So your idea to start at the bottom and work up is a good one.

5. Feats have to based on what is actually shown on film.
If the script says Vision can move the moon but we only ever see him lift a kitten.....

6. What limitations do you set on what a character will do, in terms of morals ? E.G. Ant Man could beat almost anyone by shrinking down, entering their ear and then growing even a little bit, or tap dancing on their eardrum. However that's not something that he would likely do, due to his morals.

Dr Strange uses a mystic portal to drop someone in a volcano or into outer space ( e.g. what he did to Loki in Ragnarok). Would he really do that ?

Anyway just some things to think about - but no reason not to proceed. Cheers.

So are fights to the death ? Knock out? Incapacitation?

Yeah I think working from the bottom up is a the best way to go also.

1. Didn't really think about Cap being that OP I suppose he does have some serious plot armour lol. Opinions may change after the Black Panther movie.

2. We can shrink the bracket size down to 16 or 8 depending on the size of the pool of combatants so hopefully that won't become an issue.

3. Hopefully not to many of these problems will arise at the lowest levels since most are human or have very minor enhancements. I did intend on the matchups being randomly selected but we could change this if it provides to many headache matchups.

4. Yeah we will work our way up and by the time we get to him Infinity War will have hopefully been out.

5. Yeah just what has been seen in the movies or shows, if there is an implied feat in the movie that is not shown but mentioned that can be up for debate but if there is no mention of a feat other than the script then it will be ignored.

6. Moral's are off since its a fight to the death. The only way I have really thought about getting around this and tell me if you think im wrong is to use the fact that these feats have never actually been done.

Say for AntMan he could just shrink down and pop out everyone's chest like a face hugger. But we have never seen if his body could actually cope with this. The only growing in a confined space we have seen him do is under a foot or so of dirt, so we really don't know if he could go full size in a human body without injuring himself or damaging the suit.

As for Strange again I would just use what we know he did to Loki. He left him falling for half an hour I believe is what he said. Now this would be a great annoyance and I suppose if you were to just leave someone like that they would eventually die of starvation but that's all I can take from that feat if you get me.

Thanks for the pointers man hopefully get this up and rolling once we've worked out the bugs.

Good observations Batmannerism

Was away to get a bracket made up for this but 23 is an awkward number.

Here are the 23 characters currently in the street tier non super human level. Who is one more MCU character you think fits that mould and I will add them to the list and generate a 24 man bracket?

Daredevil

Black Widow

Elektra

Hawkeye

Punisher

Coleen Wing

Batroc the Leaper

Rocket Racoon

Shocker

Kingpin

Nobu

Diamondback

Bakuto

Peggy Carter

Sharon Carter Agent 13

Dum Dum Dugan

Mocking Bird

Maria Hill

Misty Knight

The Punisher

Nick Fury

Phil Coulson

Zemo
