I heard the TV series with the guy from Jurassic Park was supposed to be awesome.

Good god those cclips were great! I cannot wait to see this movie!!

So I hear that this is based on a british miniseries from the 80's which was also directed by Martin Campbell. Campbell adapting his own work, I hope it works better for him than it did Michael Mann for Miami Vice (a movie I like despite it's flaws but most do not) It looks really good so far.

Yea I've read some good reviews on this so far. I'm looking forward to it, Martin can make some great films. So I hope this one is good.

Saw it last night. Gibson hasn't lost a step, far as I'm concerned.

Anyone else think this might challenge or beat Avatar this weekend? The tv trailers got people talking. I just wonder if moviegoers can put his past indiscretions behind him, but honestly, Gibson is turning into some Oliver Reed/ Marlon Brando-esqe movie star.

Despite dissapointing me, I still love the guys past work. I mean, Lethal Weapon man. Crazy Martin Riggs.

And Braveheart.

Road Warrior and Thunderdome too.

And even Payback.

I love Mel Gibson hurting people onscreen.

Him getting hurt? Not so much. I don't understand how getting your *** kicked can be a signature in most of your famous roles.

It's possible. I don't see Avatar making more than 30 mill this weekend, and if Book Of Eli could make 31 million it's opening weekend, I could see Edge of Darkness doing comparable business, if not better. Also take into consideration that, his personal controversies aside (which I think most of us have long since forgotten about), this is his first acting role in what, seven and a half years? As long as it looks like he can "bring the movie", so to speak, people are gonna wanna see this. And like I said, the man hasn't missed a step. If anything, I'd say this is one of the best roles of his career. Seriously, this is a man I think a few people thought didn't really have any great performances left, but he went all out on this one. He had a strong script to work with, and Martin Campbell directing? Forget about it. This isn't Martin Riggs, this isn't William Wallace, or Porter, this is Tom Craven, and you do not want to cross him for anything!

I'm curious to see it myself. Mel is always good for shooting people in a satisfying way.

Saw it yesterday.
Man was i glad to read some early reviews because they were right in saying that this isn't taken. Before reading the reviews i thought that this movie would've been like an action flick with a deeper storyline then say taken.
But this movie has very few action sequences. It asks the viewer to ctually pay attention.
ANd personally i found the movie's acting performance real good. Gibson really gives a great performce here and his scenes with his daughter ( both as adult & kid) are effective and heartfelt.
However i found his chesmitry with Ray Winstone's character truly awesome.

Don't expect this to be a revenge flick with killer action scenes. Instead this is more of a thriller with the bad stuff of what corporations do in secret.

7/10

There are still some stuff that i don't quite understand
1 Craven's hallucinations
Is he really hallucinating because of grief or is it a side effect of the radiatio poisoning

2 Is Ray Winstone's character just someone he feels the urge to help craven because he's sick of the sleazy corporate cover ups ?

3 What exactly is the deal with NorthMoor ?
Do they create nuclear weapons for other countries

I didn't expect that anyway. It's marketed that way. I think I'm seeing Book of Eli today. If circumstances won't let me, I'll see this instead.

I understand your point but personally i did expect more action , based on the trailer . Not that it was a bad thing in the end because the performances were good. However the trailer did give off this revenge type flick with brutal action which btw i had expected to deliver since Martin Campbell did it so well with Casino ROyale.

You should know more about advertising and the formation of them. The whole point of marketing is to get the asses in the seats. Take the most exciting and cool shots and put them in the trailer or commercial to get people interested. They do it in ALL movies. Magnolia has no action, yet the inserted the ambulance crash and car crash to get that cool shot in.

Yeah, the marketing is off if it is more "Gone Baby Gone" than "Taken".

Also didn't i see ad's saying something like "From the director of Casino Royale, and the writer of Taken"?

One thing I didn't get was.

Why did the hired goons take Gibson back to NorthMor when they already knew he was poisoned?

So, this has been rolling around in my brain , please answer in spoilers, but was Mel's character tortured at any point in the movie?

Yes i know that. What i also know is the backlash a movie gets when it turns out to be something else ( in other words not what the audience expected it to be).
I know that you need to have some money shots in a trailer to get the audience excited. But a trailer needs to be balanced enough to give the audience an idea of what they need to expect.
Look at the first hulk movie. People thought that it would be a badass action flick and it turned out to be a art house superhero flick with weird scenes and weird music.

I would not go that far to say it was marketed as action, but the first Hulk people was a bit too Deep for most of the GA that thought of the character as Bixby/ Ferrigno and never read a Hulk comic.

Explain tortured.
Tortured as in feeling tortured because of the loss of his daughter or actually tortured
If it's the latter then..
No. He was only 1 time captured by the guys at Northmoor and i think they woúld've started torturing him but he woke up just in time

Probably to wipe out all the trails.
When he would've been found dead at home with no traces of physical harm ( such as gunshots), cops would investigate everything
