The true identity of menace is
Lily Holister
.

I sooooo called it! in your face stillanerd! lol :oldrazz:

I knew it since the freak arc.

Back during the freak arc I noticed how Lily had been supporting her father except for the time that Menace attacked him. Than she edged him on in a very irrational way on the news later during the story.

I don't have much time to post anymore...but I'd just like to say I am enjoying character assassination. I'm a little sad that the supporting characters aren't more developed it would have made the story better. But Marc Guggenheim actually put some heart into this story...it feels like a classic. I like it more than NWTD.

Yes, yes, rub some more salt in the wound why don't you. :waa::meanie::yay:

Although,
Menace being Lily or Carlie was really 50/50, and I wasn't all that surprised Lily was revealed to be Menace because, while I thought they were red herrings, there was actually more than enough clues implicating her. After all, the idea that you have a goblin knock-off, who even before we knew who she was looked pretty feminine in body type, and who had a vested interest in a progressive mayoral candidate, and lo and behold, Harry Osborn, the guy who used to be the Green Goblin, has a new girlfriend who just so happens to be the daughter of said progressive mayoral candidate--it sounded way too simple that I assumed Marvel would be that predictable and figured "hey, it's got to be Carlie. She's got the same motivation and she's a scientist to boot." Of course, I should have realized that being predictable is Marvel's stock and trade these days. :woot:

In short, I was wrong, so I guess, in some way, Marvel did their job.

Agreed. Although, there is a thread for Character Assassination, but it's been titled in a way that it seems like it only talks about part 1. Why the moderator can't change the title, I don't know.

I read the latest issue today, it's actually takin' an interestin' twist despite the dumb approach. I still won't buy it till they hit the 50 cent bins, though, but I'll continue to Byrne-steal it at least.

Well...what did I tell you about giving complex thoughts to a Brand new day mystery? Look at where it got us with the Jackpot mystery. :oldrazz:

I don't know if my standards are lowered. I really don't. lol.
but I do think they did a good job with the reveal. HOWEVER, I still don't care enough about Lily or Menace as characters. I wish they had been developed more but hey...its adequate I guess.

Sorry about posting it here...I didn't realize that there was ONE BIG character assassination thread. I didn't have the time to read through the posts in that thread like I used to. :csad:

True. Although, you have to admit, pretty any reveal of Menace identity would have better than the answer to the Jackpot mystery.

I agree that the reveal makes a lot of sense, which is explored further in this week issue. However, I agree that one of the big problems with Lily being Menace is that, like the rest of the new supporting characters, they weren't adequately developed enough for us to care about, despite last year having 36 issues of Amazing Spider-Man. Not to mention that Menace was seen right from the get-go as another goblin knock-off. However, the one mystery that certainly became more interesting was the revelations about the Spider-Tracer Killer--or should I say killers?

No need to apologize at all. I'm surprised considering the title of that thread says "Character Assassination Part 1" that there isn't more confusion.

I still can't believe the route they went with the character. These guys can't be that dumb.

I almost forgot the issue of the Spider Tracer Killer. I'm shocked by it too...although I always thought it was the best mystery to come out of Brand new day. Very nice twist. Now I'm convinced that its the format (3x a month) of Brand new day thats hurting the book and not the creative team behind it. They just don't have a good idea of how to handle it...and I can't blame them. These stories are actually pretty good...but now I'm wondering ok...why did it take 36 issues to get here? I didn't learn anything major about the supporting cast within those 36 issues.

You can literally skip from the end of NWTD to the beginning of character assassination and miss nothing.

Very true. :cwink:

From what I understand Character Assassination was meant to immediately follow NWTD but JRJR didn't finish on time.

As for the 3X month problems, Wacker has stated that they see the problems of BND Year 1 and that they have addressed them and Year 2 will hopefully flow better

Yeah, I'm pretty selective with my Spider-Man purchasing...I think the last issues I've gotten were NWTD, and then any issues written by Waid or drawn by Paolo Rivera and now I picked up Character Assassination. And all of the ones I've picked up so far I've liked. That's what I like about BND, if there are some stories that I don't care for, I just have to wait a few weeks rather than another month.

Anyway, onto this story...the twists were very interesting ones. The tracer killer(s) angle is an interesting one. But yeah, I'm wondering what the hell happened to Lily to make her turn into that thing...I'm having flashbacks of the Green Goblin episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.

They explained it in the latest issue...
