Now can someone kindly explain to me his limits? What exactly can he do and what can't he do. I know he can transform his body into elements, but I was wondering if anyone can go more in depth with them.

You are correct that Metamorpho can change his body into elements, but Metamorpho can only change his body into the elements found in the human body.

Shift (who was a part of Metamorpho) was able to transform into any element.

Now that Metamorpho has absorbed Shift I'm not sure what his power limit is, I expect it is nearer Shifts powerlimit though.

Oh so that means he can't transform into anything like fire? Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not big on biology. :)

Fire isn't an element (a chemical element, the ones on the periodic table, not the fire, earth, water, air, type element) I suppose if he wanted to be on fire he could turn into phosferous as it reacts violently with oxygen (basically ignites in air).

If that makes sense?

Got it. So for example, if he were to turn into phosferous and ignite, he wouldn't die, right?

Right, he would be able to reform his body. For example he regularly turns into gasses and allows people to breath them (like nitrous oxide or some kind of tear gas) to beat opponents.

It remains to be seen if he is immortal or not, he once burnt himself out and effectively made himself inert but that seemed to be temporary.

His like a State Alchemist but he uses the powers on himself without clapping his hands or alchemichal circles. Yenales didn't tell you that he can cahnge his shape too.

Right. Another thing we saw Shift do that I never saw Rex do is transmute other things beside his own body like he did by turning Indigo into flesh. But, like Yenaled said, we don't have any specifics yet on how Rex was affected (if at all) by the merger.

Actually he's more like a homunculus. They seem to have the ability to transform their own bodies, but not external items.

He is one of the untapped characters in DC I think. I have always wondered why they don't do more with him.

One question though. If it is elements in the human body, what happens to the other elements in his body when he changes ... ie when he becomes water what happens to the iron?

If he becomes iron -- is it magnetic etc?

Just curious. Thanks!

Yeah if he turned into iron he would become magnetic. He takes on the properties of the element he transforms into.

He's not really untapped to be honest, he was a major player all the way through the 70s and 80s, including his own ongoing series and a few minis. Including Shift was just about the best thing about Winicks Outsiders. All this considering he was created as a bit of a parody to hugely powerful characters.

He was also part of Justice League Europe and the post Zero Hour JLA. And, obviously, the original Outsiders.

His son, FYI, has the reverse powers. He can turn things into different elements.

Yeah, he isn't a superhero - actually I'm sure he doesn't even have the powers anymore (I believe he couldn't actually control them - if I remember right he was raised without human contact) and Rex cured him of the powers in JLE (Europe not Elite).

There was also Element Girl during the 60s who Neil Gaiman killed off in Sandman.

Dude, this is awesome, hearing people talk about alchemists and homunculi from a show that hardly, if anything, represents what alchemists and homuncli were possibly like (if homunculi existed).

I'm fairly certain that he is immortal. Element Girl was, and she only died when Ra took her powers from her, making her able to die.

Ah! I didn't know he was cured. Learn something new every day.
