Michael Bay Producing "Dora The Explorer" Movie

I know I’m old when nostalgia gets to a cartoon series I was too old to know anything about.

i do like that she is instantly recognizable as dora
not that it was a hard look to put together but still the brand recognition is there

i wonder if boots will look similar to his cartoon counterpart or just be a regular monkey

Oh thank god. That means there won't be a scene of Dora covered in oil and sweat running away from a tiger as her top rides down.

They already did that with the last TF flick. :o

Hollywood Reporter said Bay and Platinum Dunes were producing.

In the story, she’ll be entering high school, but also wrangling together her best monkey friend Boots, cousin Diego (played by Micke Moreno), and a group of teens on a journey to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost Inca civilization. Dora the Explorer also stars Eugenio Derbez (Overboard) as Alejandro, “a mysterious jungle inhabitant who tries to protect the teenagers from the marauders”; Nicholas Coombe (Spy Kids: Mission Control) as Randy, “a fellow high schooler who develops an immediate crush on Dora”; Madeleine Madden (Picnic at Hanging Rock) as “the school’s snooty class president, Sammy”; Adriana Barraza (Babel) as Dora’s grandma, Abuelita Valerie; and Temuera Morrison (Moana) as Powell.

That's great, not allot of film franchises with latino leads,
Don't really know the show, will Diego be getting a spin off?

Serkis for Boots.

Only if he uses his Gollum voice.

I pray the villains turn out to be Swiper in a human suit.

Why are they making such an old Dora? She's practically an adult. I would rather have had classic Dora who was the little girl with the bob haircut. Is it to do with labour laws? But it's not like they don't make other films with younger children.

Maybe trying to get more of the young-adult teen demographic, for more of an action movie.
Also some of the kids who grew up watching might be that age now, so trying to appeal to them.
Although I'm sure it'll still be a kid friendly movie.
They likely just see the cartoon is for when she's a kid, and this is the next step.

Allot of the outrage seems a bit overdramatic - like yay I have something to needlessly complain about.
And it's really just some creepy adults here and across the web, trying to make it something it's not.

Love Longoria, looks like a fun cast so far.

I'm actually not that familiar with the franchise, I am curious to see how they interpret some of the funny animal characters?

Well Boots can't simply be a real monkey. He looks like a stylised monkey. And Swiper is a Fox in a Zorro mask. He's not just an ordinary fox. And he speaks too.

I don't know if Boots will just be treated as a normal person and not a monkey when she goes to school. No-one ever treated Boots like a pet in the show. He was just another friend who happened to be an animal.

Will they have the Dora theme song? They've never released a full version of it. The ones on the CDs are exactly the same length as the show and not an extended single version.

Yeah this obviously isn't an exact replica of the cartoon.
Why can't he be a more realistic monkey, enhanced with some cg, if he's got to do some human stunts?

He's even got the same haircut^

As for the fox, Swiper, I am curious to see how they approach that.
Maybe he's some Inca fox-trickster deity. Who can take both human and fox form.

Wikipedia Inca mythology: Fox-
The fox did not generally have a good reputation among the Inca or people of the Andes and was seen as an omen. ...

... Inca mythology contains references to gods being deceived by foxes. In one encounter, the deity Cuniraya Viracocha was angered by a fox and stated that “As for you, even when you skilk around keeping your distance, people will thoroughly despise you and say ‘That fox is a thief!’.

So what other live action versions of children's shows are we going to get next?

The Backyardigans? Lazy Town? Paw Patrol?

And why did they have to set the Dora movie in a city? Why not still in the jungle like the cartoon?

Sounds like she still grew up exploring the jungle, as per the cartoon. You haven't lost that.
And now she's in high school, that can still be near where she grew up.
I'm curious where did it say she was in the city?
And the plot seems to be now she has to go back to the jungle setting to solve a mystery.
So yeah still exploring and adventure, which is the point!

Weird, were some threads (not mine) deleted in here? Did things get that heated in the Dora the Explorer thread? LOL!:cwink:

That's great; Michael Peña, love him in Ant-Man, and knowing he's adding to the fun of this cast.
Although again I admit I don't really know the character he is playing, or the show. :oldrazz:
I do love the cast they are assembling.
I just wish it was something I cared more about.
I wish either Marvel or DC had a character or franchise they could cast this many Latinos in.
How come there was never a parallel advanced fictional untouched civilization in Marvel's Latin America?
Home of !!!The Bronze Jaguar!!! or something. LOL!

Instead we get freakin Dora the Exploradora? :funny:
