Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

Oh, I'll watch it I just won't PAY to see it. Like I said, I just paid to see Thor The Dark World but walked in to see Wolf of Wall Street. That's how much of a Marvel nut I am. Taking Pym out of play in future films just pisses me off that much.

No lies but I guarantee you I won't be kind. The FREE PR I've done for Marvel over the years is actually quite epic. They've turned a die hard Marvel Zombie in to an angry fan with one stroke.

Pretty excited by this. Michael Douglas is a great actor and Hank Pym is a pretty complex character, so I'm glad we've got his calibre of an actor to do it. Pym's old in this, and he's not an active superhero in the Avengers era so obviously there's a reason for that. I think we'll get to see his issues here, and what makes him so ****ing awesome as well.

Hhhhmm, on the one hand casting Michael Douglas in anything is great. On the other, I'm no huge Ant-Man fan or anything, never read any of his actual comics, but read plenty of Hulk, and Iron Man comics with him in, also read Secret Wars which I think he was a part of and some old Silver Surfer and Spider-Man comics he was in, and its always been Hank Pym, and I liked him as a character. Never read anything with Scott Lang so I was hoping Pym would be the main focus and hero.

To find out he isnt is a bit disappointing to me even as a casual fan of the character so I can imagine the anger of the hardcore fans. At the same time, Edgar Wright doesnt make bad movies.

Just realized that Selvig's relationship with Pym certainly makes more sense with him at this age. Also I believe his hinted ties to SHIELD would still be in effect.

I happen to think this could expand Pyms mythos rather than damage it. And the reality is that the MCU doesn't need ANOTHER genius slab inventor slash scientist right now. That goes double for the Avengers team. The more I think about this the more I like it.

Maybe an angle that brings in Yellow jacket, and the accident that makes him Yellowjacket also de-aged him...they don't suspect him as Yelowjacket as they are expecting a young guy and not "old man" Pym.

I like that Marvel Studios is not only willing to gamble on race swaps and gender swaps for the hopelessly outdated whitebread male comic-book mainstays, but also now on age swaps. It'll be great to get an old guy in the MCU. Our very own Gandalf.

I really wish they had just ripped the band aid weeks ago when they confirmed Rudd. Dragging it out like this has made it worse imo.


Not all of us are as cool as Lee or Showtime. I have thrown tantrums on occasion and I can understand the initial gut reaction. Don't get me started on when Snyder got Man of Steel.

Turns out you were wrong. He did a great job despite what I may think of the film overall. When Snyder was announced I knew the action sequences were gonna be cool. The Smallville fight is only second to the train fight in SM2 imo. I remember when RDJ was announced as Tony Stark, yeah I lost my ****.

But as long as you avoid attacking others, I don't see much of a problem with it. After all, these forums are a bit of cathartic relief. Eventually the vast majority start trying to figure out how things are going to work and think about the film we are going to get, and not necessarily the one they dreamed or hoped for.

I get ya but come on bro, it becomes ridiculous when people start saying things like 'let's lynch Wright, I'm boycotting this film, **** you Marvel' blah blah blah.

That had just occurred to me as well. Wonder if we'll get a Selvig cameo. (edit: I've been trying to find the deleted scene where this is mentioned on YT, with no success; anyone have a link?)

It would also be neat if somehow Pym is the one who inspires the "Avengers Initiative". As Fury says, "There was an idea..." -- he doesn't claim credit for the idea.

I love this casting! It opens up a myriad of possibilities. Making Pym old will give Marvel the flexibility to make a lot of Ant-Man movies if they wanted to. For instance, they can make prequel movies (like Star Wars Ep: 1-3) and cast a younger Pym. Also, I love the idea that there have been superheroes in different time periods. It's too convenient if all the superheroes start appearing around the same time.

I really do think this is the best way to handle an Ant-Man film. The story is "different", the casting is "different", the superhero himself is "different". I'd rather have a stylish heist movie (like they are claiming it will be) than another linear superhero origin story. I've always loved the fact that each Marvel movie is a different genre (CA:TWS-political thriller, CA:TFA-WWII film, Thor- Fantasy) even though they're all superhero movies.

I see 60ies period pieces with a young Pym in the future. (I mean, let's face it, how many stories can one tell with Lang as the main character? Lang centric sequels are therefore unlikely) Pym-prequels would be a nice way to fill the gap in the MCU timeline that exists between 1945-2008. Maybe Pym even inspired Fury to come up with the Avengers initiative, which would make him technically one of the founders.
Remember when Fury told Stark that he's not the only superhero in the world? technically, with Cap lost and the Hulk considered more a monster than a hero, Stark at that time was the only superhero. UNLESS someone else was active at that time we don't know yet. This someone could have been Pym all along.
I see potential here.

one thing I want to add to my earlier ramblings above: Pym probably wasn't the only hero in the 60ies. MS could fill an entire phase with superheroes in that era, like T'Chaka as original Black Panther, one of the earlier Black Knights...There are not that many legacy heroes in the marvel universe compared to DC but still enough to fill that gap in the timeline. (or they could just put certain characters that worked best in a certain decade but felt dated later in that decade, like Dazzler in the disco era - and yes, I know, bad example because FOX property - or Luke Cage in the time of blaxploitation and so on)

The more I think about this the more cool I actually think it is to have Pym come in as this wiser mentor-type. Like someone said, we're still getting him, just at a different stage in his life. Considering the casting and story that's being adapted I would imagine he'll be done justice as quite the badass.

This is exactly where I'm at. I try to get annoyed, but then think Gordon Gecko's playing Hank Pym, and that seems like it could be amazing.

My biggest concern is what happens with Jan. But I do think this shows some crazy respect for Pym to get a name like Michael Douglas to play him. Huge ones, Marvel. Huge. Ones.

everyone ages. Douglas is still one of the best actors around. no one was saying 'eww' when he did 'Wallstreet.' he was just oozing cool in the 90s (more than James Spader, even). heck, he might be too cool to play Pym.
