Wow, I never expected this. Kudos to Marvel for two massively unexpected casting coups (Douglas and Redford).

everyone ages.

Screw that. I'm checking out at 40 :o

So, does this mean, since Marvel Comics let the movies dictate the books now, that Hank Pym will be a 70+ year old man in the current 616?

I'm guessing time-travel.

Could be cool,

Plus, maybe we'll get some 1960's/70''s flashbacks with a young Hank & Janet in old school costumes.

I'd love it if Nick Fury still looks exactly the same in the 70's, just with an epic fro.

I love Hank Pym.

....And this is the most awesome goddamn news to come out of Marvel Studios yet. :word:

The Rudd news was great.
The Paxton news was great.
Mike Douglas as 70-year old Obi-Wan Pym is ****ing fantastic.

Can't wait to see this movie now.

Perhaps Janet won't be his love interest in this movie. She is a good enough character to be interesting without having to be arm candy. Heck, she doesn't even need to be Pym's love interest for him to want to give her powers. Maybe she's his protégé/confidant for example, or maybe she's related to him in some way. There are other ways to do this without the two having to be a couple.

I think Devin brought up in BAD once, but Marvel really has gotten good at this misdirection and sleight of hand stuff and could show JJ Abrams a thing or two. Everyone was so focused on the Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones speculation, as well whether Rudd will be playing Pym or Lang, that Marvel managed to spring this one on us.

Agreed.

Its Michael f**king Douglas.

I couldnt be mad at this even if i tried

Thank you! These are my exact sentiments! I really want to hate this news but Douglas and Rudd as Ant-men are just way too awesome for words. Plus 50s Ant-man flashbacks sound awesome to me. My only issue is with Wasp but having them be this old couple with a superhero history seems cool to me. I'd want Sally Field for the character in this case.

Or Pym is involved with a young society girl who's big on fashion and old guys with money and this creates a love triangle between her, Pym, and Lang. Not sure who I'd want here. Rashida Jones, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, this one's open for me too. I am just so excited about the possibilities. I love Edgar Wright's movies and I am beyond stoked.

I hope he keeps the beard, he was looking pretty cool at the Golden Globes yesterday.

Well Sam continues to surprise me...or is this sarcasm??

Not in the least.

Today was a great day for me.
Michael Douglas is Hank Pym.
Bill Paxton is going to beef up AOS.
Daniel Bryan is Daniel Bryan again, and he kicked Bray Wyatt's ass all over a cage.

This is exactly where I'm at. I try to get annoyed, but then think Gordon Gecko's playing Hank Pym, and that seems like it could be amazing.

My biggest concern is what happens with Jan. But I do think this shows some crazy respect for Pym to get a name like Michael Douglas to play him. Huge ones, Marvel. Huge. Ones.

This is how I feel, too. On the one hand, I am extremely disappointed that Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne have been erased from The Avengers in the MCU. Jan is one of my three favorite superheroines so I'm truly upset that it looks as if she won't exist in the film universe. I've also been a fan of Hank's since childhood and none of the crap that writers have piled on him over the years has tarnished that one bit. Not getting to see them in their Silver Age glory on the silver screen is a real blow.

On the other hand, it's Michael Douglas so I can't help being excited about his casting. He was utterly fantastic in Behind The Candelabra, as he has been in everything else. Douglas also sounds excited about the role and working with Marvel, which is always good to hear. For now I'm in wait-and-see mode about this film. It will need to be very, very good to overcome my misgivings.

Michael Douglas wants to surprise audiences with Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

And while Douglas has only done one sequel in his career spanning more than 40 years - Gordon Gekko in 2010's "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" - the actor teased about his involvement in future "Ant-Man" sequels.

"(Marvel) reciprocated well, there are sequels. Who knows?" the actor said.

So much for the hand-wringers who thought Pym would be "one and done" in this movie.

Awesome!

Here's what Douglas had to say in the article:

"I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long," Douglas told Reuters on Monday. "The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (the actor's 13-year-old son) will love it. He'll have a picture he can see."

And about possible sequels:
"(Marvel) reciprocated well, there are sequels. Who knows?" the actor said.

Man, if actors like Michael Douglas and Robert Redford were dying to be in Marvel films at one point, what actor in the world would pass up the opportunity to be in one? Marvel pretty much have their pick of any actor in the universe by now, as long as there are no scheduling conflicts.

Marvel has really been surprising me with their casting since phase 2 and onwards into phase 3. This is some impressive stuff.

They've always had formidable actors in their phase 1 movies, but damn. They are really bringing it.
