Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

you can never mention a problem about a female character without the sexist accusation.
Truth is Wasp is apart of the package for cryin out loud ofcourse she can't be on her own?? they're married for cryin out loud.

sure we will make a movie with donatello, we don't need the rest of the turtles.

AND no one wants a 60 something year old wasp. these female characters must also have sex appeal whether ye want to admit it or not.

And Giant man is as monumental as antman, he was in the 2nd issue of avengers if i'm not mistaken?

I still stand by my post. We know nada about Wasp yet.

As to the rest of your post, Jan and Hank aren't currently married in the comics. Also, just because they were introduced together in the comics doesn't mean that has to be so in the MCU.

As for everything else, just... I disagree. Quite a bit.

well i'm sure peeps would have been annoyed with a 60 something year old black widow in avengers.

the only way wasp would work on her own is too not mention how she shrinks, and the general audience will be like wtf?
or make her a new origin which is disrespectful to her and also hank seeing as they also took ultron from him, and giant man will never see light of day.

hank is reduced to a shell of what he was

Ha, is that not his exact arc from the comics? Although I suppose beating his wife would be a far more "accurate" means to that end than growing old

what would you suggest for her origin story then??

Im personally quite happy to be surprised with whatever MS comes up with. If I trust and admire the writer/director, at minimum I can take a wait and see approach.

I suggested a few pages back that they make Jan the costumer for the Avengers team, someone with both an engineering and a fashion background, who is accidentally exposed to Pym particles (or whatever) and she becomes the Wasp. Or not. Let Wright or Whedon or whoever writes her into a film make the call. Surely, Marvel Studios has earned some latitude at this point. No?

yeah I'm just someone who appreciattes them tweaking the source material rather then changing it completely.
I was actually okay the mandarin ****, i actually loved it.
but now i think they are seriously pushing things

as you said yourself it was A story arc. irrelevant to his core character.

The story arc that has (unfortunately?) defined the character for decades. Ergo, not irrelevant

Hank Pym starts off as an idealistic young hero. The years of nonstop fighting eventually take their toll on him and he becomes an embittered old man

vs

Sounds like a sanitized version of his comic arc to me, without the "sliding timescale" nonsense

We don't have to have seen the movie to know all the above,do we?(No Avengers,Ultron,Wasp, etc)

All we really know are the vaguest details. You're judging the quality of the writing and character treatment without having actually experienced it. I think seeing it first would make sense, yeah.

it's really dismissive of Jan's character that she's basically reduced to being an appendage of Hank.

Like Scuzzlebutt's Patrick Duffy leg.

Actually, I'm imagining someone of Helen Mirren's ilk, or Julie Christie, or Jessica Lange, or Alfre Woodard and if they'd been cast as an older BW, that would've been amazing.

I'm always willing to wait for the finished product and then air any grievances I may have had after that. Until then, any reservations from me are noted but I'm absolutely willing to give Marvel a chance to tell this story. They and Edgar Wright deserve that goodwill, personally speaking. I can't speak for anyone else on this board.

As for where Jan gets her powers, why couldn't she just make them herself? She has her shocks and a suit that allows her to fly. She could have come up with those on her own.

I think we will see Jan in these movies. Doing what and as whom I don't know. But she's an important character.

i think it would have been kind of cool to have an older Black Widow in the present; introducing the character. then they'd tell most of her adventures in the past; for the solo movies.

I think this is a different case than compared to -say- the Heath Ledger as the Joker controversy. In that case it was "Omg,da brokeback mountain guy?" In that case,I can see saying "wait and see what he does".

Here we know Hank won't be young, spry,a member of Avengers, married to Wasp....I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna pull a "Mandarin" and say Douglas isn't the "real" Pym.So I think it's safe to forecast what we're getting.Good or Bad,it's not what some of us wanted.

But we don't know any of those things. He might not be young & spry in modern times but most certainly will in his heyday, nothing about being older precludes him from being an Avenger today (isn't comic Jarvis considered a member of the team? also Thor is far older than Michael Douglas and no one gives him any grief) and we have zero knowledge about what his relationship with Jan is (and being married to her is not a critical element of his character anyway)

I can appreciate that people aren't getting exactly what they envisioned but most of this fretting is premature imo

I thought Michael Douglas is playing Hank Pym in his heyday in the 1960s. Kirk Douglas will play the aged Pym in the present day. :o

Well,it'll take an epic retooling of the character to sever her ties to Hank.....

you don't need to sever her ties to Hank. they just probably won't be married. and they aren't married, in the books; presently. that's not a huge 'retool.'

That would actually be really cool - like this aged, stone-cold Russian agent leftover from behind-the-scenes missions of the Cold War. I guess it'd be sort of like Agent May from AOS, except compelling.

Fixed. :oldrazz:

Damn. That sounds like a great use of Black Widow now. Her Cold War origin is as important as The Punisher's Vietnam War origins so I would have been all for an older/veteran Black Widow helping the team. You don't see grizzled women in movies often.

I'm happy with what we got. Just pointing out an awesome idea. With that said, I'm wondering what other heroes were around during the 1960s Ant-man era. We know The Defenders may be taking place in the 1970s already.

Wouldn't that essentially maker her an expy of DC's Bumblebee, especially with a potential ethnic change?

you guys are right, screw the source material and the origins that make them who they are, lets just create a random character with the same name and powers, but lets make her study wasps as a daytime proffession.

sure while we are at it, they should rewrite batmans origin that he accidently killed his own parents when he joined the red hood gang and now dedicates his life to make sure that never happens to anyone again.

It would be awesome to if batman is a teenager that escaped an orphanage and robin is an old sensei that guides him on his mission.
