Homecoming Michael Giacchino is the Composer for Spider-Man: Homecoming

The suite is good. Need to hear a lot more before I can really judge it. So far, it looks like it won't even come close to topping Elfman, but it's already easily better than Zimmer and Horner. Gotta say I had higher expectations from Giacchino.

That fan made track is SPECTACULAR. WOW. It's everything I was hoping for from Giacchino and probably the only thing that is equal or better than the original Elfman theme. So disappointing it's not the official score :csad:

Giacchino's really growing on me, but im sure he'll gind a way to sneak in the cartoon theme like in Speed Racer.

I just find the Giacchino theme okay, but kind of generic. It sounds like a superhero theme, but one that would fit for a lot of superheroes.

The Elfman theme, while it's less of an overt superhero march, it has more of that "suspended in mid air" feeling that really works well for swinging. On top of that, the section that closes out the end credits of the 3 Raimi films really just screams Peter Parker/"with great power..." to me. I really think Elfman nailed it. It somehow had heroics, romance, quirkiness and wonder all wrapped up into one. The Giacchino theme just sounds like "heroic guy doing heroic things" to me.

Again, I don't think the Giacchino stuff is bad or anything, and it may work in the context of the movie. But to my ears, it just sounds a little cookie cutter.

The new theme is alright. I dunno, Giacchino's work often just doesn't do much to excite me.

Elfman's theme is still tops IMO. Underappreciated at the time, but it's held up as a classic of the genre me. Didn't care much for Horner's theme. I actually did enjoy Zimmer's ASM-2 music, despite the dubstep and Olympic-style fanfare. There's some cool stuff in there. I enjoyed the inclusion of some guitars and rock influence on that score.

I agree Giacchino's work is usually boring. That's a bad thing about the MCU, you know cinematography and music will be bland.
My dream choice would have been Desplat but with Disney and Marvel everything is so generic.

No, you don't know that considering Marvel has some of the most beautiful cb movies. This is a completely unfounded and ridiculous complaint. I have heard about music and villains before but cinematography? lol, no.

I wouldn't say the cinematography is bad but the color grading is very bland sometimes.

Marvel's cinematography IS weak even beyond the color grading.

Listening to a film score before you've seen the film feels like it sorta defeats the purpose of a film score. So... yeah, I'll listen to it when I see the film in theaters and I'll probably enjoy it.

Fair enough, I hope you enjoy it!

I'm definitely warming up to it.

Not necessarily. The truly great scores tend to work independently from the film. People who are really into film scores will usually seek out the score before the movie comes out. When you fall in love with the score first, it just gets you even more excited for the movie, and then seeing the full context of where it goes in the movie just enriches the experience. Although personally I try to just like to take a little peak to get a sense of it and not spoil the whole thing.

I also won't be listening to the score until after my first viewing.

I'm a big fan of movie scores in general and the true great ones usually stand out even before watching the film, I've experienced that a few times. That being said, the music can also benefit from how it's usued in the actual film. So it can still be good.

Sounds like 80s slasher music :funny: I kinda like it

Oh boyyyyy. I'm not gonna go into this discussion again fro the 5 times. if some of you can't understadn that Russos were going for a grounded, gritty Bourne-like cinematography to refelct the political undertones of the two movies then you need to watch more films. It was a deliberate choice just like making Guardians more colourful was a deliberate choice to reflect this specific corner.

I'm so tired of this F&cking video getting linked everywhere and suddenly it's being chanted by everyone. People didn't even notice until this video came out.

the Giacchino theme sounded really good to me, I don't understand what's the issue. It feels like it's one of those scores that work great in the context, which is ultimately the most important function of the soundtrack. It all depends on if the movie is good and knows how to work in harmony with the score. Independently functional score is always a plus but I don't need every cinematic theme to be like Star Wars or Jurassic Park. If it works in the movie, it's a good score

It was a deliberate choice to make the film look ugly? :oldrazz:

I don't really appreciate that video at all. I think he is looking way too hard into it. And I do think he know what he is talking about to an extent, but I think he has it all wrong with Marvel. I do not by any means think they look bland. I agree they could work on their blacks in making them darker. But I like the more realistic look they have. Batman v Superman looks artsy, sure, but it also just feels and looks really fake and heavily tampered with. I don't need my comic book movies LOOKING like a comic book or an actual drawing, they are movies.

There are plenty of scenes in these films where I love the way they look. The house attack in Iron Man 3, the final battle in Winter Soldier, the airport fight in Civil War, the scene in Incredible Hulk where Ross and Samson are talking in the rain after the Culver University scene (I love the sunlight still peaking down in the rain), the scene in Doctor Strange where him and the Ancient One are in Astral form etc etc.

I like them because they aren't hyper realistic. They remind me of the way things look in real life, which makes it easier to relate to, I guess.

I am also not on the boat of "all Marvel soundtracks suck" because I have loved basically all of them. The only ones I don't really listen to much (or have in my playlists) are Captain America 1, and Thor 2. The rest are great. Incredible Hulk's is my favorite.

The best track for Doctor strange composed by Giacchino is placed at the end when everyone was leaving. Major misstep. It's not there enough through the rest of the movie. We needed more of that weird music mash-up flavor throughout the film.

Hmm can't say I was big fan of that part of the score. Sounds a bit all over the place anyway, score should be fine anyway.

Marvel wanted the score to be primarily orchestrated so that's not surprising. The end credits are usually where the composer can shine with the MCU films, since they're not restricted so to say.
