Michael Keaton: Overrated?

As much of a beating as the Burton movies have taken in the past few years, I wouldn't really say there's anything about them that's overrated at all. Unless having any semblance of a fanbase is considered overrating them.

The Burton Batmovies have only taken a beating in recent years because some batfans have a shiny new toy to play with in the Nolan Batmovies.

It sounds like Beetlejuice 2 will actually happen. I really hope so, Michael Keaton is a very good actor and the original one was fun as hell. Plus who wouldn't want to see Tim Burton and Michael Keaton work together again?

I'd love to see a sequel to Beetlejuice!

But yeah more Keaton/Burton collabos can't hurt anybody and will be awfully welcome; If only they'd make a 3rd Batman as well while they're at it to give that series proper closure.

I seriously wanna see Burton adapt Miller's Dark Knight, but incorporate elements from Batman & Batman Returns into it. You know, to round out the Burton Batman films as a 3-parter. Appropriate, I think, considering Dark Knight Returns was part of the inspiration for the tone of the first film. He could definitely use Keaton and Pfeiffer in their original roles. Pity that Gough isn't still around. They could do Keaton up ala Bruce Willis in "Sin City"... give him a hairline again and make him real haggard. T'would be epically epic!

But getting back on topic... Beetlejuice 2 I'm totally keen to see, especially if Keaton & Burton are involved. I really can't see it working without Burton. Having Keaton is one thing, but Burton really needs to direct it.

It would be a good thing to help make the transition from Nolan to the next iteration more smoother in the eyes of general audiences too I'd like to think. TDKR and TKJ were Burton's favorite comics. I would love a loose adaptation of that book to round out that series. Gives WB an excuse to re-release the first 2 to and push a "trilogy" box set.

Holy **** I just thought about that. 2 Batman trilogies that will make millions on home video pretty much forever? how could they not go for it. I'd only like to see it if Burton and Keaton are interested in going there though. I wouldn't want it to be a money project that they don't really have their heart in like how Keaton wisely backed out of BF; I'd expect that same integrity from him today.

In Burton's case the last time I felt compelled to see a film of his at the cinema was Big Fish which to me personally is one of his greatest. Certainly his last really good one. Corpse Bride felt phoned in like it was made to capitalize off the whole "Burton returns to stop motion" thing without any real heart.

I've never seen a frame beyond the trailer of Charlie & The Chocolate Factory or Alice in Wonderland though. I hear I didn't miss much as I predicted. Just looking at their trailers I just knew it was something Burton did for the cash. The tone of the trailers alone and how they go "oooh see all the Tim Burtonisms kids" but with no rhytim or soul to sell just dictated that **** to me. Sweeney Todd was alright.

The movies he makes for the cash never sit well with me so I wouldn't want him to ruin his Batman movie legacy if he will just do it for a big check but not because he feels there is one more chapter to tell before closing it all out.

RE: Beetlejuice 2

The guy who wrote the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter book (who's adaptation Burton is producing) had an idea for a sequel. He pitched it to Burton and Burton liked it. What's happening now (reported on movie sites this week actually) is that Burton and Keaton are both interested and Burton and WB see it as a priority which is a very good sign.
