Batman/Batman Begins: The comparision

Bruce Wayne/Batman: Christian Bale>>>Keaton

Villains: Joker>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ra's

Leading Lady: Vale>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dawes

Batmobile: 89>>>05(close one)

Alfred: Caine>>>>Gough(close one)

Gotham: 89>>>>>>>>05

Mob Boss: Grissam=Falcone

Cool factor: 89>>>>>05

I agree with all of this, but I still prefer Begins. Because:

Story: 05>>>>>>>>>>89

Characterization: 05>>>>>89

Those are the two main points. A movie isn't about design and visuals only, something Burton obviously got carried away with.

BB>>89 (not by much)

I have no idea what Cyrusbales is talking about either.

My point on Gordon in BB is that he is set up as a character in the middle of a dark and brooding environment, where he could be murdered anytime etc, then just becomes comic relief. At least B89 was consistant.

Gordon did nothing in B'89 and even less in Returns. Just saw Returns today and Gordon had a total of two scenes that each lasted less than a minute lol

As a person I think Nolan is a snobbish prick (Ie: his wizardworld comments on Batman Vs. Superman) but I've enjoyed all his movies. He has made good adaptations and remakes his whole career (I like the original Insomnia more though) and BB was no exception. It mixed my favorite character with his style just like BATMAN did with Burton. It had it's flaws but overall at least Bruce Wayne/Batman was on screen physically not just always in a subtle way or even metaphorically.

Oh and the only thing I disagreed with was Caine > Gough. I grew up watching Michael Caine movies so I'm too used to him to the point that I don't even see the character anymore. I didn't know who Michael Gough was before the Batman movies so he's always been Alfred to me.

I`d say...I wish Batman Begins had the style and art direction of the first Batman. This would be to me the perfect Batman movie.

What did he say?

I assumed Nolan was a nice guy, seeing from all the set reports with him taking pictures with fans, signing autographs...

...then again...:ninja:

Yeah Michael Caine was too big name as Alfred. I liked Gough and thought he had the look of a butler.
I did like Oldman being cast as Gordon but he shouldnt be played for laughs..hopefully he does more than being the official Batsignal light operator in TDK

Same here. That would have been perfect.

Me too, he probably just wasn't in the right mood. But I believe he means when a fan asked what think about a Batman/Superman movie, Goyer said he's not interested, John Nolan said maybe, and Chris Nolan said "who gives a ****."

Yep that's it. I mean "who gives a ****?" how about the millions of fans that buy Batman/Superman worldwide every month, or the millions of fans who acknowledge that the more fantastical elements of the Bat mythos (Ie: his friendship with Superman) is just as important as the more grounded elements Nolan likes to wack off too. Or the dozens of comic creators who feel the dynamic between both characters is important and always do their best to flesh it out further.

Creators who have done more for Batman and his world than Nolan ever would. Hell his own brother feels that it's an interesting thing. Look I like Nolan's work despite all of it being adaptations & remakes (Memento was based on his brother's short story in case someone want s to throw that in there) none of them truly original. I have no doubt that TDK will not only be the best of next year but the best Batman on film so far. I just think sometimes he tends to have this pretense like his versions and ideas about anything are the only one's that matter. He could've said he wasn't interested in such a project in a much less rude manner.

WOW. Are you serious? Based off his response to a proposed Batman v.s. Superman movie, that would make him a snob? You weren't even there. He didn't have a reaction that came off as snobbish. In fact, he said he was just exhausted and he doesn't even have tiime to think about it. Even if he did poo poo the idea, why would that make him something as grave sounding as a snobbish prick? Everyone there, INCLUDING fanboy himself David Goyer thought the idea was horrible, and definetely wouldn't fit their continuity and character set. You are quite the judgemental little d-bag.

See, how you like that?

:whatever:

BTW, I've met him and his wife on numerous occassions, and they are about as down to earth as they come. His brother included is so ridiculously humble. Both don't come off as snobbish or with an heir of supperiority. Maybe this extends from Nolan not going into film school, or him just not buying into his own hype ... thus remaining level headed. He's so anti-Hollywood, that you can see it on his face. The guy has done nothing but bust out great film, after great film. He has every reason to be full of himself, but he isn't. Don't be so quick to judge. Especially labeling his entire character based off a response to doing a Batman / Superman movie. Was Tim Burton a snobbish prick for consistently putting down the character of Robin?

Yeah, didn't Nolan get a laugh out of the audience anyway?

Oh, Jonah Nolan said he loved TDKR comic, and it was a "hand me down" from Chris one summer. He said while in theory it's great, he couldn't see it working on screen ... or at least with their version of Batman. And you know what? Each person on that panel was dead on balls accurate in that assessment.

Nolan really didn't even answer the question. He said he was tired, and would need another break from Batman after the movie wrapped up (they were only 1/2 way done by that panel) ...

He said he was tired and didn't have time to think about it. I don't know where this guy is getting his info from, but it's just flat out wrong. Do you really think Nolan would blast something like that publically ... at a COMIC-CON no less? Dude, use your head. He side stepped the question, like much of it really. He absolutely hates giving tidbits of his film away before it comes out. And I respect that. He was forced to go there by WB, he was mainly there just to thank the citizens and fans from Chicago for their support, and daily kind words he recieves on the streets. And as a "thank you" he give us quick random clips from a movie that isn't even half way done yet. That isn't snobbish prick nature at all. In fact, I'm offended someone would even say that. Especially considering how nice he has been to me, on a personal level ... EVERY SINGLE TIME I've met him. So yeah, dude is just flat out wrong.

Oh, and I'll take the heat for Nolan. A Superman / Batman movie would suck goat nuts. There, I said it.

And like I said, everyone on the panel said it wouldn't be a good idea ... EXCEPT for Nolan. Who merely side stepped the question.
