Since they restarted the series people have been argueing these two movies worst than Tom Welling vs Brandon Routh. So to start off this comparison thread please note that I am claiming to be the voice of fandom but I am stating my opinion.
So to start this off lets look at the Leading Men....
Michael Keaton
Looking at Michael Keaton one would never in a million years confuse him with Bruce Wayne. However leave it to Tim Burton to see something that many of us at the time didnt see. In my mind Bruce Wayne is a slightly crazy individual. As millionaire there had to be a million other things he could have done other than donning a Batsuit to fight crime. Burton saw that capacity for insanity in Keaton. As he said in the B89 SE they needed someone who could bring intensity and not necessarily the physical because the suit would do all of that. Keaton delivered intensity in spades. He played a BW who is not quite right. A BW who is more comfortable in the cave in his batsuit than at a charity benefit being held at his home. He is thrown a curve ball because he didnt expect to fall in love with Vicky Vale and doesnt know how to fit her into his world of crimefighting. He tries to tell her about his alter ego and can't. He is a man that constantly thinks about that night his parents died. Keaton is my favorite Batman and Bruce Wayne for these reasons.
Christian Bale
What can I say this guy looks like a millionaire playboy. Bale is physically everything that a comic fan would want in an actor playing their favorite superhero. However the thing that made me not really believe his BW was that he seemed very well adjusted. His parents death was not the absolute worst thing in his life and had the judge not let Joe Chill go we might not have had a Batman as it seems he was doing pretty well in Princeton.
So while I do like Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Michael Keaton's performance was better to me.
