MICHAEL KEATON RETURNS (or at least in discussion) AS BATMAN

What would cause Batman to get so bloody and beaten up given he’s meant to be an amazing fighter? I hope they don’t show regular thugs beating him to a pulp. He still should be able to handle multiple people at a time.

Or did the buff stevie wonder look-alike from 89 come back and kick his butt? He’s the only major villain Batman could not beat

And even that I took to be because he was so beat up after the Batwing crashed. He was clearly in a bad way, the way he stumbled into those pews. It's actually amazing he was able to fight as well as he did.

Also before the fight he had to climb all those stairs as well. Oh, I forgot to mention that
Robin/Winston Drake is also seeing Dr. Q, and telling her he's Batman sidekick.

Then of course her main focus so far is on Batman, and if they can do a sequel to the 89 comics then I wonder if they'll have her be the main villain as Harley?

He’s old and no longer in his prime. Should be obvious.

Those first few issues of the B89 comic book have been a huge dissapointment. I really hope it picks up.

I've heard that quite a bit. Shame. I've been waiting for the trade, but I might not bother :(

Considering how long it took for the B89 comics to get the green light it's better than no B89 comics at all IMO.

If it doesnt pick up, Ill just disagree with that. So far the only thing good with it has been the covers. Both the story is silly and doesn't feel like the world of those movies and the art is mediocre.

I stopped after the second issue. Doesn't feel like the Burtonverse films at all, and while it's well written, I frankly resent the insertion of current day identity politics into something pure and fun (despite the dark and twisted veneer) from the days of childhood.

I don't begrudge others from championing it as their preferred canon with regards to what happens after Returns, but it certainly isn't my idea of a Burtonverse comics continuation.

I can see that. That was my initial reaction too but then I realized there was quite a lot of political opinions (on politics in general) in Returns.

I think the story works for the only black Dent but at the same time it doesn't. He was going after the mob the 89 and while he has this grudge against batman I'd would've liked to see him stretch himself thin taking on the mob and Batman and the mob, like the comics, turn dent into Two-face.

However, with the Rodney King riots happening in 92' I could of seen that influencing a Dent driven story (perhaps similar to what we have now).

The other thing I don't like is Robin being a whole new character. They race swapped Dent in 89 and no one cared. Catwoman was race swapped in the 60s. I wouldn't of been a big deal to make Grayson black at all.

Also, I wish they got the guy back who drew the movie adaptation for 89. That was solid art

If The Flash chooses to not include this storyline I'll simply add it to the movie adaption cannon

Returns is somewhat political, but only in that milquetoast 'too much power in one pair of hands is bad for society' manner that pretty much everyone can broadly agree upon. And in any event, that political angle is a very far distant second to all the character struggles going on in that film. Returns is first and foremost attempting to be a character piece about freaks and outcasts. Rodney King riots or not, I can't see Burton leaning too much (if indeed at all) into the politics of that time, had he gone on to do a third film. To my mind, a hypothetical third film with Burton at the helm would be mostly apolitical, just at the previous two were.

So Forever and B&R are no longer canon in BatKeaton universe ? I liked BatAffleck, if they really want to merge DCEU with another saga in DC adaptations universe only to replace Affleck by Keaton, I find this concept ridiculous
At this point, seems this Flash will be tied with Burtonverse and CWverse

I wonder if Keaton will be heading back to Glasgow after the SAG awards. His time there was worryingly short. I don't expect him to have a massive part, but I thought it would be a little more substantial than that.

WB getting ready for his return:

Keaton is great but he won’t be the draw WB thinks he is. Bale’s Batman has overshadowed him and is the one loads of people who make up the prime movie going audiences grew up with

As far as any reasonable person is concerned, they never were.

In 90s they were considered as canon (Batman 5 meant to bring back Joker's Nicholson and old villains in flashback..) but seems they're not canon anymore now, as we see in CW elseworlds, Flash 2022

We've always known them to be technically canon with the Burton films (up til recently anyways), but owing to Schumacher's radically different approach towards aesthetics and tone, it's never truly felt that way for most fans. In fact, Gordon and Alfred are really the only dividing line between Schumacher's run being a soft reboot and a total reboot.

Yeah, they were as canon to the Burton movies as the various Bonds are to each other-- as in it's technically true, but... come on, y'know?
