BvS Michael Wilkinson Is The Costume Designer For Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

I wonder what his Flash and Cyborg costumes will look like. Hopefully he does the Green Lantern one too along with Shazam.

I'd imagine that Cyborg would be mainly CGI like Zod. I do wonder if Green Lantern would be CGI like in the first GL movie. If so, I just hope it looks better...

Yes, this thread was needed. Wilkinson is a god among insects when it comes to superhero costumes. He made the BEST Superman costume EVER, and from the looks of it, his Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman designs are going to leave all the others in the dust.

I would love to see Wilkinson work on a few Marvel Studios projects, specifically the new Spidey reboot. If anyone can do as good a job as James Acheson did on the Raimi films, it's Wilkinson.

Fun fact, Acheson shares the costume design credit with Wilkinson on MOS.

I don't think so. It'll likely be a physical suit with CGI enhancements, which the 2011 film should've done in the first place.

I can see Ezra Miller in the goggles and Flash bandana over his face ..hmm:hmm:

I love how so far (IMHO, you have to make this clear with EVERYTHING nowadays) Wilkinson has designed better suits for the JL than the new 52 counterparts. I could kiss this man.

I think the colors are going to work very well when Leaguers get to stand next to each other. Three remaining characters will have the same colors as three introduced ones. With Superman standing out, like I think he should, being the "crown" of the League and all that.

This is what I meant:

Batman and Cyborg - gray and black.

Wonder Woman and Flash - red and gold.

Aquaman and Green Lantern - green and black (+ gold in case of Aquaman)

Superman - blue and red.

I'd like to see Lois is a nice dress, since I heard rumours of a party scene at Lex Luthor's house.

Yea his Flash costume is gna be nasty. I'm sure Cyborg will require alot of Cg. Not sure if he handles that, but probably has some say in it.

I am curious about this too. Does anyone know if he had any part in designing the Kryptonian's armor for MOS? Aside the undersuit I mean.

Faora's (and perhaps Zod's too) armor was partially real thing and partially CGI, I expect a similar approach with Cyborg.

I cant wait to see how the Flash looks.

I'd love a scene with Supes and Flash. Flash is just being his normal funny smartazzed self and says something along the lines to supes about how fast he is. just bragging and bragging.

supes smiles and says well i'm pretty fast to and at that the flash speeds off, taps supes on the shoulder, grabs clark's glasses out of his cape and heads across the room holding them and twirling them like a kid.

Meanwhile, supes is still turning to see why the flash was tapping him on the shoulder...

supes looks up and sees the Flash across the room with his glasses and says, ok, you're fast.
the flash smiles. then stops. he looks and sees that supes is tossing a ring up and down into the air..flash looks down and his ring is gone off his finger. his smile vanishes, while supes smile remains.

I'm fairly certain the costume designer designs all the costumes, or at least oversees it. The cgi armor was all hand drawn first just like the practical.

Only issue I've had so far is Wonder Woman's skirt. Everything else he's done so far has been perfect. :hrt:

I did not know that! Man you learn something cool everyday.

Yeah, that's what I think. He had to be involved in at least the concept art phase.

Wilkinson talks about Aquaman.

"Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" director revealed the first photo of Jason Momoa's Aquaman costume earlier today. Long gone are the orange top, green tights and long blonde locks the character is known for, as the "Game of Thrones" star sports scale-inspired armor, a ton of tattoos and a new trident.

The character's signature belt buckle remains intact.

The costume was designed by longtime Snyder collaborator Michael Wilkinson, who also designed looks for "Watchmen," "Sucker Punch" and "Man of Steel."

"It has been a thrill and an honor to bring this iconic character to life for a modern audience," Wilkinson tells toofab of his Aquaman design.

"Zack Snyder has a brilliant vision for making this character powerful and relevant," he continues. "I enjoyed designing a costume that reflects this vision and honors the character's rich legacy."

With Synder's color palette, Momoa's makeover matches the new looks for Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman ... all of which Wilkinson also designed.

While it's not 100% confirmed that Moma will appear in "Batman v. Superman," it's pretty likely he will be, considering he's already in costume. He'll also appear in the November 2017 "Justice League" film and a solo "Aquaman" film slated for July 2018.

I couldn't be happier with all the costumes so far. I can't wait to see what The Flash and GL will look like.

I did not know that! Man you learn something cool everyday.

If you pause SM-2 and/or SM-3 during closeups of the suit, there's a similar scale pattern that Superman also has on his suit. Colors seem pretty close, but Superman's red is definitely more subdued.

I don't know how the costume design credit thing works, but I think Acheson worked on a previous aborted Superman project (some insiders say the MOS suit was mostly a Flyby design). Wilkinson and Snyder likely found it, tweaked it a bit and used it. Maybe Wilkinson lobbied for Acheson to get co-credit on MOS, which would be a nice thing on Wilkinson's part.

Aquamomoa looks amazing! Definitely the visual and cultural refresh the character needs. The tribal tattoo making the scales! Inspired. Geoff Johns' returning the character to his '60s era look in the New 52 just didn't work for me. And as has been mentioned the ethnic change to Aquaman is quite obvious and brilliant. I have a feeling Aquaman is about to become a top-tier pop culture icon for a new generation again.

Can't wait to see Cyborg too. I really hope they throw out the '80s Robocop look for a 2015 informed design, more akin to Ghost in the Shell and Deus Ex.

However the Flash costume is by far the most anticipated for me. This character to me is most in need of a new direction. The casting is already an interesting choice, I really want to see what Wilkinson and Snyder have in mind here.

So far the only outfit I have found lacking is Wonder Woman's. Batman looks awesome and Supes is his usual self. It may just be my general disinterest in the character being played by Gal Gadot but her outfit doesn't do it for me.

Momoa looks like a god in the costume. A very different take but one I think fans and general audiences can back.

Here are my full thoughts on the costume:

Nobody here has nothing to fear from Wilkinson - from what I've seen and experienced, he knows his stuff!

I only wish there was a bit more blonde added to Momoa's hair. But they can always do that for JL or the Aquaman solo.

I've grown to like the changes to Cavill's costume now too. I hated the square centre of the belt at first but it occurs to me it fits more visually with the rest of the sharp pointed lines used through the suit. The symbol, piping, boots are all jagged and squared, so the 360 curved oval actually doesn't really make sense.

Flash and GL are going to be interesting to see. Wilkinson and Snyder have a remarkable knack for knowing just which elements are appropriate to adapt for live-action. And they seem to be infallible at that.

I'm really curious whether they'll adopt any part of the (CGI) approach Campbell and WETA did with GL.

Wish he was doing the entire DC Universe. Hopefully the people doing Suicide Squad and the people that end up doing any of these other movies won't be a huge step down. Wilkinson is definitely the Micheal Jordan of Superhero costumes.
