Mickey Rourke Set to Play The Ice Man

Heh, Kuklinski is probably the only real-life serial killer that people would think was awesome. I remember his interviews with Dr Dietz on A&E and it always stuck with me how emotionless he was when he recounted his murders.

I think that's the same one I was referring to in my other post. I couldn't remember who interviewed him or what channel.

I'll never forget watching the documentary on the real "Ice Man". Holy crap was it sad and kind of creepy. Sad for the family not sad for Ice Man himself.

One story he told in front of the camera:

He was sent to kill one man who owed money. The man pleaded to Ice Man to give him more time to get the money. Ice Man said "Ok, I'll give you 30 minutes for something, someone to come in and save you but you can't leave this room." Something along those lines were said. And he actually sat there for 30 minutes with the guy he was sent to kill and when 30 minutes went by he killed him. Really sick stuff.

Saw the HBO special on this guy...he really is a pretty scary guy :(. Should be a good movie.

As messed up as that is, I always have to shake my head at dumb asses who get involved with the mob as well as just borrow money. It's their fault they got put into those situations most of the time.

That may be true but it's still terrifyng how emotionless the guy was. How he was able to just sit there for that long staring at a guy begging for his life.

I'd say the most disturbing part of his interviews was when he was asked how many people he thinks he killed. He literally sat in front of the camera for a good 3 minutes what seemed like 3 hours before he could come up with a number.

The most interesting part of the interview was when the doctor told Ice Man his over all view of why he is the way he is.

Yeah, that was pretty nuts. I remember one part where he mentions that he killed a friend or two that "messed up" and he made it sound like years and years of friendship didn't mean anything, that's cold blooded.

The most interesting part of the interview was when the doctor told Ice Man his over all view of why he is the way he is.

I can't remember what the doctor had told him, I only watched it once and it was quite awhile ago.

Spolier just in case.

He compared Ice Man to men who took up the force and became cops. He said that Ice Man wasn't too different from a cop or detective who live without fear of death or concequence. The only difference is that Ice Man grew up in a violent family where his father was an enforcer or hitman and Ice Man learned from that which caused him to go down the path he did. Had Ice Man grown up in a good home chances are he would have lead a clean life.

Here's a pic of the guy. Not any pic, of course..

I look at this picture and can't help but see James Gandolfini

WOw, I'm quite interested in this. The real life killer was pretty....badass, I should say. Though, obivously, that doesn't justify what he did. WHat he did was wrong.

I mean, seriously...he tied a mans arms and legs togeather and left him in a cave in the wilderness. You can pretty much guess what happened next.

Then why use the words, "Bad ass". That's said to people you think are cool. Not a freaking sociopath, which is what the Ice Man is.

I have to say in that mug shot of The Ice Man if you put glasses on him he kind of reminds me of James Lipton.:hehe:

Gandolfini was the popular choice

He does look like him a lot but he would essentially be playing his character from True Romance or The Mexican(except not gay of course).

I wonder if his hitman character in True Romance might have been inspired by The Ice Man.

He was pretty cold in that and the way he sits there for awhile talking to Patricia Arquette's character reminds me of that story that was mentioned where he waited for 30 minutes before he killed that guy.

I've read that Gandolfini is very particular with his roles now post Sopranos, so I wouldn't doubt he'd turned this down in fear of being type cast (no way around that at this point). I'd assume he was approached at one point.

Yeah that scene in True Romance is great, and I agree sounds very similar to The Ice man.

Anyone think Paul Giamatti would be better suited? He knows how to play an evil nutjob if you seen Shoot 'Em Up.

See the comparison:

I've seen a couple of HBO documentaries on the Iceman, very eerie stuff. Although Rourke doesn't really resemble the real Iceman, he definitely could pull the role off well and I'm sure he'll do fine.

How could both Channing Tatum and Mickey Rourke had competed for the same role? These two couldn't be more different in terms of age, looks, and acting ability. I'm glad that Rourke got the part instead of that wooden pretty boy Tatum though.

Rourke may not look exactly like Kuklinski. He does sound like him. & I have no doubt that he will display that cold side of him. He will be holding up an Oscar for this role gauranteed.

I like how the author threatened to relinquish the film rights to the book if Channing Tatum was cast. Smart man. People should do that more often.
