Not a single one of Sony's own first party franchises in the chamber has ever sold like a CoD title. Not even close.
Sure, but the sales will not reach this hight anymore now that it falls away from Sony...so the days of COD selling as much...are pretty much over.
And then lets look how it compares to Sonys franchises.
That first party games often dont sell as well as Multiplatform, is not new.
what makes you think it would be so easy for them? according to Sony themselves, no game can match CoD for competition. They even said so themselves when comparing CoD to Battlefield, which has been the former's competition for a while:
Sony says it can’t compete with Call of Duty.

What was said during the whole process, means little in the end.
MS said stuff just to be able to buy it, Sony said stuff to prevent it.
COD is a simple Ego Shooter...its not hard if you put the money in.
But Sony didnt need to since it was Multiplatform so far.
oh yeah, everybody's buying a Ps5 now that it's actually in stock. I should have been clear that I don't think the damage will be done to the playstation brand immediately, but the burn will be felt overtime as the generation goes further into its lifetime. And of course mS said they lose to Sony...they said every possible thing they could say to make their argument that they should have the right to buy Activision. And it worked.
If this all will be felt later, then we dont really need to worry.
Especially since many pointed it out, MS has in time messed up more than they got right.
Who says they will not mess up COD when their own HALO series tanked because of their decisions?
That's not really a concern for mS. This was literally the biggest acquisition they ever made. I don't think they're even interested in making profit, they are only interested in gaining marketshare. and since they didn't try to do so with all of the talent they already had, they decided to buy the biggest piece of marketshare that could possibly be bought, the publisher Activision Blizzard King.
Everyone is interested in making profit...MS wants to do it fast.
That is why they bought it.
They dont want to build franchises, they want to benefit from them.
Like I said, I don't think we/they will feel the burn right away, but overtime this generation the burn will be gradual and then dramatic. Right now, CoD will still sell more on Ps5. But eventually, mS will just offer CoD on gamepass and more and more of the fanbase will take notice. As the value proposition of playing CoD on a paid subscription service over paying $70 gets more and more conspicuous, more and more of the fanbase will likely jump ship to Xbox because of it.
That has to be seen first.
Im not sure if CoD really is the system seller, we will see.
That's a separate point. They have had more studios than Sony even before this acquisition, and somehow they were allowed to still proceed. But from their previous acquisitions, they have released two games this year, Redfall & Starfield. While the former was a flop, the latter was a big hit for them.
1 out of 2 while Sony will probably have 2 out of 2 this year after Horizon, next week spider-man 2.
Like, MS doesnt really stand on good legs currently.
Sales way behind Sony, many of their IPs struggle...i heard the new Forza Motorsport or so is not shaping up to be that grand.
Halo is pretty much dead at this point.
The rest of the Ips they have are far away, like the next elder scrolls.
I dont know, i look at all that and dont see MS dealing a deadly blow to Sony on this.
