I'd have thought it would be tracking for at least $75 mil on its opening weekend but I suppose it doesn't have the same appeal as something like The Super Mario Bros. or Sonic where you have plenty of adults who grew up with the games over decades as part of the target audience.

Taking my boy to see it this weekend, had a quick scan through the RT 52% reviews (not that I pay much heed to them) and general consensus seems to be that kids will love it, adults will hate it. I don't mind as long as he enjoys it.

Sigh. I wish a more interesting videogame franchise is getting this kind of box office success.

I guess I'll skip Minecraft 2 and Minecraft 3 too when they eventually come out!

Went to see it today. Can’t say it’s the kinda thing that floats my boat, but my son and his friend adored it and I respected how much of the Minecraft lore the filmmakers worked into the story, even if a lot of it was silly. It’s also the first time in my life I’ve seen other people in our cinema cheering and clapping - I know it’s not uncommon in US theatres as I’ve seen social media clips of Endgame (cap lifting the hammer, etc), but where I live in N.Ireland, it never happens.
