Mission: Impossible 3

A 28 million opening for Poseidon? I think it can get a bit more than that. I'm thinking 35 million for Poseidon with M:I 3 trailing it at around 30 million for this upcoming weekend.

I don't think Poseidon has ANY momentum heading into this weekend's box office! I haven't heard a single person clammor about wanting to see it. In fact, i've heard the opposite. Not even Kurt Russell is saving the movie...

at first i thought i might be interested in seeing it, but now i'm thinking, "why? why do i want to see this movie? ...oh, i don't."

it's going to underperform BIG-TIME and i think word-of-mouth will help Mi:III because Cruise certainly didn't... Poseidon, i think $28 million is a good estimate. however, i WOULDN'T be surprised if it does as poor as $23 million!

I think it can go either way, but it is summer and it is a special effects popcorn disaster flick...I think it can garner at least 30 mil...it depends on how many theaters it can pick up. I would rather see M:I 3 take the top spot again because that movie was just freakin' awesome. But I think it's going to be a close one.

Poseidon has no chance of being a big hit. No buzz, and sandwiched between Mi3 and Da Vinci/Over the Hedge? :ghost: Death for the 15,000th ship movie.

I have to say, I was impressed. I agree with whoever said that MI3 was the best of the MI movies. I liked it. It didn't have the right... momentum. Not enough scope. Not much of a build up. It doesn't make you sit on the edge of your seat and ask 'What's gonna happen? I need to know!'. More like, ok, cool, so what's happening here? There didn't feel to be any one event or moment which drove the plot forward. It lacked something, but overall, it was a pretty good movie. Just my $0.02.

The only thing that could save Poseidon is good reviews and strong word of mouth, but honestly, I don't think it's going to have much luck in either of those two departments.

I actually remember how back when this whole Cruise/Holmes deal started, there was rumored to be some reluctance on the part of Brad Grey to greenlight MI:3. Seeing as to how the movie was easily going to have a ridiculously huge budget. Cruise as producer probably gets a big cut of the profits as well.

Maybe this is a sign Paramount needs to start making smarter investments in their future projects and seeing that throwing tons of money at these so called

I think Poseidon will do moderately well - Kurt Russell, Wolfgang Petersen, and a re-make of a not only good movie, but a popular one. Should be interesting.......I'll be seeing it on IMAX............

I think when you count Worldwide numbers, it should do pretty well. As far as MI3's disappointing take, I'm sure it had everything to do with Tom Cruise, but since it was a good film and word of mouth is positive, it will end up doing pretty well..............

That's basically exactly how I feel. It feels like there's something missing from the movie, that one huge kick@$$ moment, but at the same time, I didn't leave the theater disappointed at all. Everything tied together well, it was very entertaining, I was never bored. During the party sequence there was a point where I almost thought, let's get to some action, but then at the same time, felt that everything worked perfectly during the sequence and there was no rush to move past it. I don't know, I just think everything worked perfectly for a very enjoyable summer popcorn movie. I should've hated the movie, but instead I liked it.

The party scene was the only one that reminded me of the old tv series out of all three of the movies. That and the disposable camera debriefing.

I thought the Chesapeake Bay and Vatican sequences both filled the "Wow Kickass moment" Quota personally

Last Mi film? I want to say no, but I lean towards the "done" answer.

Everyone should read EW's cover article (with Tom Cruise) regarding the salaries of Hollywood stars and the effects it is having on the film industry. AMAZING article.

Isn't Paramount about to acquire Dreamworks to boot? If so, they're going to be a pretty big force in the industry, regardless of flops. Dreamworks has franchises that are guaranteed hits as it is. And adding that to Viacom, Nickeloden, MTV, and whatever else, they're on the ball.

Anybody else sportin' an MI:3 desktop, like me? :D

Like the avatar Hunter Rider, especially since I just read the first page of this thread with you saying how bland you thought Keri Russell was.

I saw this movie and was really impressed. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous installments, but this movie was really good. A great way to kick off the summer blockbuster season.

I dunno, the powershift to Grey was sort of an indicator that things have been down lately.

What franchises does Dreamworks have? If you mean the Shrek films, last I heard, Dreamworks animation was going to remain separate from Viacom.

Russell lost some weight. She looked very sexable in MI3.

Carter, your avatar is hypnotizingly awesome. If you could somehow gets some bouncing boobs in there, it'd be a pièce de résistance.

Sorry for the randomness of this post, but I just can't get enough of Tom getting thrown into that car.
