Mission: Impossible 3

It is a very sad fact, too.

Nevertheless, summer 2006 (with POTC 2, SR, X3, Da Vinci, Over the Hedge, Cars, etc.) will beatdown summer 2005 (Revenge of the Sith and co). However, for the year overall, 2006 should be worried. 2005 ended REALLY well with Goblet of Fire, King Kong, and Narnia.

We'll see. Even King Kong disappointed a lot of people and underperformed.

If MI:3 disappoints, I'd say all bets are off.

The Inside Man did very well.

MI:3 isn't exactly what I'd call a serious "adult" movie either. They want the kids to be seeing it as well.

Cool. I am waiting for that on dvd.

And MI3 was mostly a serious movie. I don't feel like talking about box office numbers anymore I just got off work. :)

That was a shocker. People had Titanic expectations (which I think was stupid to begin with). Narnia beat it down.

It really wasn't considering who was working on it and the hype it was getting.

Thing is, Titanic being as successful as it was, was a surprise in itself. NO ONE saw it coming. A lot of people thought it would bomb and were scared ****less.

Especially with the price tag for Titantic (and that was 10 years ago )

But to think that it could do 600 mill in the states (or, I guess over a billion overseas) was kind of strange thinking. KK doesn't have the huge, relevant following that LOTR has....right? So, I still think that was crazy. I had KK doing over $300 mill, with the spectacle of it alone (plus the Peter Jackson factor), but Narnia really hurt it (and possibly the overkill).

Exactly which is why the box office is still pretty much in a slump. These movies with huge expectations are just turning out to be moderate successes.

Well, if it made 70mill overseas this past weekend then I think it's a sign that the film will likely do its big money overseas and just will be a mediocre "hit" here in the States.

I wonder if Cruise is as much of a tabloid staple in other countries as he is here, that might be the big answer to why the movie is seemingly underperforming here in the states.

Narnia had nothing to do with it. People were just generally disappointed with Kong (I wasn't, note).

Narnia was another one. The media were all taking shots at it and being smug bastards because the religious groups gave it their approval. The movie ended up being pretty good and made more money in the US than BOTH King Kong AND Harry Potter 4.

But then you look at Goblet of Fire bringing new life to the Potter series and you think, "Well, what's the BO deal?"

But I know what you're saying, cause the last major hit (going back to last year) was a film people didn't see as being a major hit: Narnia.

I highly disagree. I think Narnia had a lot to do with it. Instead of Kong owning the Christmas holiday weeks all to itself, it had to split with Narnia. Now, that doesn't mean you double Kong's gross if you take Narnia out, but you have to think not having Narnia around would have sent Kong up at least another $50 mill.

Peddling his ass with that white "I am hip" dance to try to bring in the black audience. Oh trust me I know what he is up to. :)

Ok, I just saw M:I:III and it was great.
I'd give it a 9.5/10.
It was a great way to start off the summer blockbuster season.

One question though, I thought Laurence Fishburne's character was a traitor.
I went to the bathroom right after he got capture by IMF and came back when he broke free in the elevator and beat down the agents.

At the end, I saw that his character and Ethan Hunt were on good terms, but I thought he was bad.

What did I miss?
Was he playing both sides?

It always has to come down to black and white, eh?
Its terrible that this is how we all think now-a-days.....

:down

Billy Crudup's character, the guy who Ethan meets at the 7-11 was the traitor and planted that cover of it being Fishburne.

Warhammer, try to use some spoiler tags. The people who haven't seen it might come hunt you down for spoiling stuff.

That was a decent twist too.

Charlotts Web comes out this December. And there's alot of horror films coming out in October.

It's the beginning of may, college students (like this one) are taking their finals and trying to get their summer plans together. It's going to do fine in the B.O. I know of a ton of people who are very anxious for the movie and haven't gotten a chance to see it yet or are waiting to see if people like it before shelling out nearly $10 for a ticket.

I have 2 friends in College and their finals were this week, so they were finishing up studying.
