These two films have a lot in common. They are probably the greatest Disney Animated films of all time. Both won couple of Oscars (Score and Song) and both won Best Picture Comedy/Musical Golden Globe with Score and Song.

But in your opinion, which is the better film?

Oh man that's a tough call because it's apples and oranges.

Beauty and the Beast is the pinnacle of the Disney Renaissance and the paragon of what Disney does best: great characters, great story and classic but perfectly executed Disney Animation. The Lion King doesn't have the strength of the characters and story but it is the most visually powerful and innovative of the full length Disney animations -- and it's a testament to the value of visuals in film and what true artistry can do to create characters and story. It wasn't just beautifully animated, it was a true visual experience.

But in end -- for ME -- Beauty and the Beast still wins out on the rich characters. Belle especially is absolute perfection.

The Lion King has a much stronger villain and a more powerful story, and objectively is probably an overall stronger film, but I think on an entertainment level I enjoy Beauty and the Beast slightly more. I think Timone and Pumba detract slightly from Lion King while the comic relief characters in Beauty and the Beast aren't quite as over-the-top.

Both are the top tier of Disney animated films though. Very strong and elaborate animation in both.,
