Action-Adventure Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning/The Final Reckoning

I never got the sense in Ghost Protocol they were grooming him to take over the franchise. I mean in the final act, he had the more comedic stuff to do.
In Ghost Protocol, Brandt did at certain times find himself in the thick of the action.
In Rogue Nation, He was inside the system trying to help the others from afar.
There was the car chase, but his role in that sequence was more comedic than dramatic.

Just in case anyone is interested,
I recently discovered a podcast dedicated to all things Mission Impossible called Light The Fuse.
you can find some good interviews there including a two parter with Christopher Mcquarrie.

True, but at least they sort of resolved the whole thing with Ethan's wife...though it took over a decade.

YES! This movie won a Critics Choice Award for Best Action Movie over Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther etc. It's well deserved!

I really need another sequel. Bring back the same creative team. Bring back some older Agents (Maggie Q anyone?) and do even more insane stunts.

After watching the BluRay and seeing the amount of work Tom Cruise puts into these movies, I just need more. I gained a whole lot of respect for him/the crew. Especially with the airplane jump.

In addition to my DVD's, I have been catching The MI films on TV every chance that I get.
I watched Rogue Nation on FXX twice last night.
For the month of January, IFC, will be showing the original film all throughout the month.
Some of those times are in the morning btw the dates are Jan16 17, 19 22.
Whenever I have had a bad day, I like to watch an MI fillm.
Cheers me right up.

Christopher McQuarrie Closes Deal to Direct Back-to-Back ‘Mission: Impossible’ Films (EXCLUSIVE)

Sources tell Variety that McQuarrie has signed back on to return to write and direct the next two films in the popular franchise. Sources also add that both films would be shot back-to-back — not unlike the final two “Avengers” sequels — in order to take advantage of the popularity of the series, with the first bowing summer 2021 and the second coming out in summer 2022. The release comes in 2021 to avoid conflict with Paramount and Cruise’s next big venture, “Top Gun: Maverick.”

McQuarrie had said in recent interviews he was hoping to do something different, and had been meeting on a handful of projects including Paramount’s “Without Remorse” starring Michael B. Jordan as John Clark. With the latest “Mission: Impossible” film grossing more then $790 million worldwide, the biggest box office total in the series’ history, the studio knew they couldn’t let a good thing die and quickly moved to bring back McQuarrie to write and direct the next two pics.

McQuarrie will now look to start writing the script while Cruise continues to shoot “Top Gun: Maverick” and while no start date is set yet, sources indicate the studio would intend to start shooting sometime in 2019.

After years of switching up the director to give a new feel to each installment, Cruise and Paramount have now settled on McQuarrie as the franchise’s primary helmer.

A part of me wishes they'd quit while they're ahead, but the more dominant part of me is excited because I know he and Cruise already have the big set-pieces in mind and have probably been planning them for a while.

I thought he was going to take a break? :funny:

I guess they realized Cruise time doing this stuff is almost up. I now wonder if this is the finale. If they are really trying to start shooting this in 2019, I wonder if Ferguson will be back, with Dune.

Wasn't Fallout supposed to be the final chapter

Not crazy about the back-to-back films idea, but I get it.

They gotta strike while the iron is hot and also while Cruise is young enough to do this. I really just hope this won't be like every other film that has ever been shot back-to-back and released one year apart, where the first film feels like watching only the first 2 acts of a complete film.

Kind of wish they’d go back to having a different director each outing.

I'm sure she will. Dune's just one movie, which presumably will not be the epic cluster**** behind-the-scenes that the original was.

Shows you how much I've been paying attention to that! Still, she's not the main character or anything, so I see no reason they couldn't work it out.
She kind of is though. If it is like the book, she is in it every bit as much as Paul. I agree though, this will probably work out and I am worrying about nothing. It is kind of funny though, I am more excited to see more of Ilsa then anything else here.

I hope this is the finale with Hunt as lead. Bring back as many from the previous movies as you can (hello Henry Czerny!) and leave us satisfied. Obviously it won’t stop the IMF from existing but there should be a sense of closure.

Well I just Googled and saw that Dune's supposed to be shooting this year, so I don't see them overlapping at all anyway.
