Action-Adventure Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning/The Final Reckoning

After all that talk about McQ making sure MI:F felt like a different director than RO, he signs up for two more back-to-back!

MI:F was my favourite movie last year-- not to mention the first one of these movies that's really hooked me since the original-- so I'll be surprised if these next two can top it... But McQ and Cruise have a heck of a track record together.

I'm hopeful as always.

I actually hope he keeps this up, because it indeed did feel different, imo. Maybe he sees this as an opportunity to stretch himself and play with style a bit more.

He definitely did a great job with it, but pushing yourself into a total of four different styles-- in the same franchise-- seems like it could go wrong. He's a smart dude though, so maybe he'll pull it off.

Yeah, it could certainly go wrong. But I have faith. He's earned it with me.

I hope this is the finale with Hunt as lead. Bring back as many from the previous movies as you can (hello Henry Czerny!) and leave us satisfied. Obviously it won’t stop the IMF from existing but there should be a sense of closure.
Chris Mcquarrie said in a podcast that Kittredge almost came back in Fallout, so, you never know.

Cruise will be 60 when M:I 8 comes out. He'll have to quit after that one, right?.......Right? :o

I wouldn’t mind seeing Paula Patton again. I liked Maggie Q but she didn’t really have much of a personality.

No more rogue agents though.

Wow, not what I was expecting to hear today. Stoked to hear McQuarrie is coming back. Fallout was my favorite film last year by a good margin. Not sure how I feel about shooting the two films back to back, but I trust both McQuarrie and Cruise to deliver two films that are totally complete and different from one another.

I’m guessing they’re trying to jump on what they can as Cruise gets up there in age.

I appreciate what he brings to the series but this also means he's gonna be tied up with this franchise and not able to branch out to others.

Hopefully they bring back Paula Patton and Maggie Q.
A thousand times yes!

I think Cruise, Rhames, Pegg, Maggie Q and Paula Patton would be the ideal IMF team. Maggie Q could probably pick up some slack on the physical front if they want to take some of the load off Ethan and just let Cruise handle the biggest, craziest stunts. She can do some of the more straight-forward fighting, as that's kind of her specialty. Girl trained under Jackie Chan, ffs, and was totally wasted in her first M:I outing. I only leave Ilsa out of this group because she'll probably keep her independence, but obviously she should be included.

I definitely want to see Paula Patton again, and agreed on rogue agents.

I wonder if they’ll be bringing back Lane, and if they do will it be for both.

Sounds these two might have one end on a cliffhanger(probably literally with Ethan although is that too soon after Fallout?)

I hope it's not Solomon Lane as the bad guy.

I really would love Maggie Q to be back for one of these. Not the biggest Paula Patton fan but would be happy for her to come back too.

I loved Fallout so of course I'm down for more movies, especially if McQuarrie is coming back to direct both.

All I have to say to this is Lorne Balfe better not be returning, given McQuarrie's insistence that each film feel as if it was done by a different director. It'll be the crime of the century if Joe Kraemer doesn't score at least one of these.

I think it’s time for a female as the main villain. If they get someone like Angelina Jolie, who hasn’t done a big movie in a while, I think the hype would explode. Not sure if she’d work with Tom though.

Great news! Looking forward to seeing what crazy stunts they conjure up.

If he continues to treat these movies like an extreme sport, I'd have to imagine so. If someone convinces him to go easy a little bit, I bet you could squeeze more movies out of him. I mean, hell, Liam Neeson's current output is like 80% action movies and he's got a decade on Cruise.

Counterpoint. Liam Neeson is Irish. That makes him scientifically 10% tougher then the vast majority of human beings. Even those powered by aliens.

Since the two films are only going to be a year apart, I honestly would like them go smaller and intimate for the first one. Can still do something cool like the halo jump, car chases, etc. but maybe save the insane helicopter chase/hanging off the side of a plane for the second film and put all the crazy crap in that.

I have to process what I think about shooting and releasing Mission movies back to back.....but my intial response to the news can be summed up as this!

The closest your going to get to intimate is the original.

Christopher McQuarrie Signs on for Two New 'Mission: Impossible' Movies

In the aftermath of Fallout, McQuarrie found himself courted by many studio suitors who were opening up their pantries for him. Warner Bros. even tried to seduce him with DC projects, but he decided to take a breather and stay true to his friend and partner, Cruise.
