Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

I wasn't too enthused when I heard that Cruise would be back. I really think his involvement in the franchise took away the team concept, which made MI stand out in the first place from Bond and other spy series. Also didn't care for him not being Jim Phelps, and what he did to Phelps in the first film. Not cool.

That being said, I enjoyed the heck out of MI3 and I am looking forward to JJ's continued involvement. It reminded me of a really good Alias episode, and despite the box office, the third installment was the best film in the franchise, followed by the first film, and far down the list the atrocious second one.

I also hope that since Cruise is coming back that they bring back the team from the last one. You can never have enough Maggie Q. Though I hope MI4 is a final chapter/passing the torch kind of thing for Cruise's run.

Same here. This is why I really enjoyed IM3 (even though it doesn't seemed to be that well-received like the previous two installment). I love JJ Abrams' attempt to bring the team concept back, because that to me has always been the core concept of Mission: Impossible. I'm not thrilled about Cruise coming back for IM4 (I thought it'd be the perfect time to "reboot" the franchise), but since he's coming back I'd like to see the team we saw in IM3 return as well.

I think there is a chance Maggie Q and Jonathan Rhys Meyers will return, if you look at the previous movies there is a reason only Ethan and Luther returned, at the end of Mi-3 all team members were alive and well and active.

I also wonder if Michelle Monaghan comes back, I thought she was a great addition to Mi-3 but finding something for her to do outside of being kidnapped is not easy.

it's not like Maggie Q is doing much. Jonathan is also kinda struggling. They need new agents.

he jsut came out in the from paris with love movie...

damnit. my choice for the Superman Reboot and The Flash is going JJ ABRAMS on me!

The mission Impossible franchise is a great place for Bird to spread his wings and try out live-action film, in the same way MIIII was the perfect project for JJ Abrams to test out his skills on a larger canvas preparing him for Star Trek.

I really really hope Brad get this.

I think Bird or Wright would be perfect for this movie. If Bird does this movie, then I can bet Michael Giacchino will return to do the score (he's a favorite of both Bird and J.J. Abrams). Wright will look for an excuse to get Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in there, not that it's a bad thing.

Simon Pegg was in MI3 so not much of an excuse needed to ge thim back . I hope the team returns. I'm probably one of the few people here who actually watched the original series (in reruns) before the first MI came out and I was kinda suprised how quickly they got rid of the team in the first one

I just hate what they did to the Jim Phelps character in 1. Maybe they should retcon what happened, just bring him back somehow in the next one. The character is iconic imo.

even if they had plans to bring back Jim Phelps, they could not do it anymore since Peter Graves died a few weeks ago.

Besides, that's not the character Graves was best known for.

But Phelps wasn't played by Graves in the movie. Jon Voight.

i agree that, while i did like the first film, making Phelps the bad guy was kinda..sad and disrespectful. I didn't expect it but still. Even in the way he died (he gets smashed by the helicopter) is brutal.

Hoffman was better than the 'almost Wolverine', Douglass Scott from MI2.

I swear, it's weird fate is. Image if MI2 was on schedule and Scott was actually Wolverine in X-Men. We wouldn't have Hugh Jackman...so weird.

well if that means he can get his 1906 moving, then MI4 it is!

I'm excited to see how he handles the transition to live action, not as easy a switch as some seem to think.

i have faith in guys like Bird or Andrew Stanton who's doing John Carter of Mars because they're serious storytellers first, animators second. Because of that, yeah the shift to live action might be hard, but they are committed directors in their own right.

Brad Bird Confirmed for Mission: Impossible IV

Source: Empire
May 7, 2010

On Thursday, Paramount Pictures announced that Mission: Impossible IV was being pushed back from May 27, 2011 to December 16, 2011. Now the director has been confirmed as well.

Tom Cruise talked to Empire magazine and said that it is indeed Brad Bird taking on the director's chair, as rumors had suggested. Bird is of course the director of critically-acclaimed movies The Iron Giant, The Incredibles and Ratatouille.

Cruise, who is starring and producing with J.J. Abrams, said "we're working with Brad right now. I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about it but everything's signed... Brad is doing it."

He added that "we're having a lot of fun. I like working with people I just love hanging out with, you get to hang out and laugh and talk stories and movies and technology: what are we going to do?"
