I wasn't too enthused when I heard that Cruise would be back. I really think his involvement in the franchise took away the team concept, which made MI stand out in the first place from Bond and other spy series. Also didn't care for him not being Jim Phelps, and what he did to Phelps in the first film. Not cool.
That being said, I enjoyed the heck out of MI3 and I am looking forward to JJ's continued involvement. It reminded me of a really good Alias episode, and despite the box office, the third installment was the best film in the franchise, followed by the first film, and far down the list the atrocious second one.
I also hope that since Cruise is coming back that they bring back the team from the last one. You can never have enough Maggie Q. Though I hope MI4 is a final chapter/passing the torch kind of thing for Cruise's run.
Same here. This is why I really enjoyed IM3 (even though it doesn't seemed to be that well-received like the previous two installment). I love JJ Abrams' attempt to bring the team concept back, because that to me has always been the core concept of Mission: Impossible. I'm not thrilled about Cruise coming back for IM4 (I thought it'd be the perfect time to "reboot" the franchise), but since he's coming back I'd like to see the team we saw in IM3 return as well.
