It never was higher than 4th at the box office?

That doesn't matter nor does it change the fact that it did solid business when everyone had already written it off?

Evan Almighty opened to #1 two years ago and yet it was a flop. So your "point" is pointless?

Bond: "Shocking positively shocking..."

I favourite MI1 and MI2, MI3 not good as MI3, PSH stole the show from Cruise as well.

Haha! each to their own but you're the first Ive heard say they liked Mi:2 more. :wow: :D

How was everyone writing it off? It got 60% at RT? That's pretty good.

But stating saying "Cruise is coming back" is kinda an exaggeration. He's still a name but he hasn't necessarily shaken off the "joke" status.

Before the film was released, most people had already written it off as a box-office flop and a critical turkey. It turned out to be neither. I've been saying that the whole time. Where did you miss that?

You said "everybody" was saying it was going to flop.

I merely stated how I had doubts about carrying a blockbuster. Valkyrie was hardly a blockbuster in any sense of the word. And like I've been saying, he's still a name and he's still semi popular, but I still think he has a stigma to him that may prevent him to carry a blockbuster for the foreseeable future.

"Everyone" had written it off - as in the press. All one has to do is google news-items on Valkyrie during it's shoot back in 2007 and the constant date-shifts to see?

He carried Valkyrie and that film turned out to be a big surprise hit. Right now, Cruise is slowly having a "come-back" thanks to that and Tropic Thunder. People are starting to like him again.

How was Valkyrie a surprise hit?

It pulled in $85 million domestically and $200 million worldwide after everyone had written it off as a flop?

The opening weekend projections had it earning around $18 million when it actually grossed $30 million?

Nowhere in these posts did you specify "who" or a time frame there initially? So it's not that out there to say that that's what you were referring to, whether it was a general consensus, the public or even critics.

Going back to what you initially stated how Tom Cruise is on a slow come back and people are starting to "like him again" he must be on a really slow come back especially since he's not doing a movie this year and the 2 movies he's slated to be in for next year are "rumored".

The poor confused smiley is worn out with you two.

By multiple reports, Cruise has been mulling over what his Valkyrie follow-up will be. He's gotten tons of offers since it opened last Christmas. Notice how Paramount suddenly wants to work with him again after its success?

And I was pretty clear in my posts. All you keep doing is change the subject.

"Oh, Valkyrie wasn't a surprise hit. Wait, it got horrible press for a year but still wound up making $200 million - more than everyone said it would? Well...it didn't go past the #4 spot so it wasn't a hit!" Oh wait...there are films that were flops that opened to #1? Well...what do you mean by 'everyone?'"
etc.

End "debate"
:whatever:

What movies is he scheduled to be in that's not a rumor?

I wasn't changing the subject, I was simply clarifying what you meant, if you want to argue semantics, it's still the same general conversation and honestly off tangent off my initial post.

I thought 'Wichita' was now pretty much set as Cruise' next movie ?

Is that the James Mangold project?

Yep, the last thing I read on that seemed to suggest it was about ready to shoot with Cruise and Diaz starring.

On IMDB it's still listed as rumored where I got my previous information. :o

I'll put $$$ down right now. The Hardy Men will never get made.

Has IMDB's status changed ? I always thought they were seen as unreliable.

Right now his IMDB lists Motorcade and Wichita

Is it just me or does this seem more like it might happen because of the power Abrams now has at Paramount than the power of Cruise.

Abrams might as well be at the top of the Paramount mountain logo now.

*"random new Paramount logo with close-up of J.J. Abrams on the top of the mountain" pops into mind*
