I gotta agree. Though I think Maggie Q is still smoking. I rewound those leg scenes of her in the car in the third movie's trailer a lot when I was 14.

Ya, I'll have to admit MI series has been pretty solid and it kindof flown under the radar so to speak. I don't know if I would say its Bourne good, but its been pretty decent.
I hope it doesn't turn into a Bond type series where theres just a boat load of them.. I hope they do the 'cliche' so to speak and stop at 3. I just don't think it has the staying power to go past 3.

You know, it's funny... I almost think of the first M:I film as a "Bourne" film before there were Bourne films. By that I mean that it took the spy genre in a very un-Bond-like direction, way before the Bourne movies did. I actually think the story is a bit tighter than the first Bourne movie, with more twists and less predictability. The first Bourne is a great movie, but other than the action sequences and the romance, there's not much to it; just a guy being chased. It's very light on intrigue for a spy movie.

I think that if M:I had continued in that vein (moderate action but an intricate plot) the films would be regarded as highly as the Bourne movies are. But unfortunately, the second M:I film tried so hard to be a (bad) James Bond movie that it killed any chance of that happening. However, I liked the direction they took it in M:I 3, -- action-packed but good story -- and it looks like they've kept with that trend with this new film.

Personally I think they **** the bed with the Bourne thing in the end !.

Yeah it was fresh to have a "real feel" spy movie....no laser-watches, mini planes in horses asses, etc,etc....[Studios must've loved the low cost !] but, all did just seem to plod along after only a coupla viewings....

And that Greengrass guy !!! WTF ? He took the wobbly-steady-cam to the extreme where even when there shoulda been static studio shots of the bad guys at the top [in restaurant for example] supposedly in control of everything,he had me feeling sea sick !.Its ok to have wobbly camera stuff on Bourne out in the field running about but in a fricken restaurant scene for dialogue...! Pfft [easy stomach] Shoulda kept the two styles seperate, giving better definition to the opposing sides !

And another thing....dunking his head in some water a few times turns Davo into a KILL-BOT ????? Gimme a break ! That was especially weak as was the finale on the roof top where Damon could barely be bothered acting at all !!!! Ooooh the intensity after all of that ! Meh. And then he's a Celeb on the news !!!!!! Yeah ! He'll need a M:I Mask from then on ....hence Renner I guess !

You know, M:I has a serious chance of being a huge Bond-like franchise that continues on after Cruise leaves (if he ever does). I'm talking about 15 or 20 movies. It's definitely possible.

I mean, looking at the timeline of M:I and Bond in the 1990s, there have been 6 Bond movies since 1995, and 4 M:I movies since 1996. If we're starting at M:I's debut in 1996, then Bond is only beating M:I by one film in the 90's (5 to 4).

So, in these years, M:I has managed to be just as culturally relevant and frequent as the Bond films, and bonus points go to the fact that Cruise has stuck to the series since the first film.

If Cruise were to play a "Jim Phelps"-like character in future movies, where he makes a 5 minute appearance to explain the mission, the franchise could continue if Jeremy Renner or Josh Holloway takes over. In fact, I would love for this to happen.

It could be the first film series in Hollywood history that sticks to the same continuity over the span of 20 films without the need for a reboot. Could you imagine? There could actually be a working, continuous mythology that spans 20 movies.:wow:

I always felt they shoulda used the James Bond name....as a kinda designated code, like the OO7 thing.

Like, reach a certain competence level and they got given the NAME too. James Bond generations type thing ! Y'know thats why some bad guys seemed to know James Bond's name... ! And in reality when we all ask "Who's the next Bond", thats exactly what the surviving bad guys are thinking ! heh !

i dunno ! I just woke...need more coffee.

I personally find the other female character more attractive.

You're damn right that Léa Seydoux is more beautiful. A picture of Seydoux was enough for her to land a role in this movie. :woot:

you know this is the 4th one, right?

Please, the Bourne series was far superior than the Mission Impossible series.

I thought Cruise did a decent job in the first installment but it was downhill from there.

I still don't understand why they don't have any person carry-over from MI3 except for Cruise to this movie; I'd love to see more Maggie Q in this.

Simon Pegg carries over from MI:3

I didn't notice until now, but where is Ving Rhames? I know he's in the movie but he wasn't in the teaser at all. I bet that means brother man probably got killed.

:o

So Ving Rhames is in this then?

LOL i thought the exact same thing when i saw her getting out of the car in the trailer...

I never got Maggie Q looks wise. Just didn't get the hot vibes alot of geeks got from her. Always thought Paula Patton was very beautiful though.

I'll take MI over Bourne any day of the week. I absolutely love the first Bourne movie and the rooftop/through houses chase scene in Bourne 3 but the shaky cam is way too overboard in 2 and 3 for me to enjoy them. Mission Impossible series has always had great action which makes me come back to them more.
