Comics MJ's Next Appearance?

MJ's birth never happened now.

(Err..i mean, that's Joe's next plan for the next reboot...) :cwink:

The official Response from Marvel would be: "Keep on reading to find out!!"
My Response is: I dunno... It probably won't be that soon cause of the trying to not remind people of the marriage but they'll keep on pushing OMD/BND references just to not remind us of the Satanic Un-Marriage...

To farmernudie: IT WAS NOT A RETCON!! We just remember things wrong... and the older issues we have they're wrong, but they read the same... it's Ma-... Somethinf that it is not Magic... Just keep on reading in order to find out the explanation... But seriously Marvel needs to change the keep reading line to Keep buying... cause I can read them at a store and not buy them...

So, if I read your post corectly, you are indeed doing what Marvel is telling everyone to do...

Good for you...

not really... just cause I CAN read them at the store without buying them, does not mean that I READ them at the store without buying... I usually borrow them form friends... but that's not the thing...

But I'll admit that I did read the first few issues but it wasn't for me... now I flip across them so I can have an idea what I'm *****ing about...

Remember that with great power also must come a great responsibility... and I have the power buy the issues. I CHOOSE not to... because it is the responsible thing... as long as I disagree with Spidey current direction... Marvel needs the money... They just need to find a way for them to make me give them my money...

That's cool... I can respect your decisions...

But are you reading other Marvel books?

Because in theory, you'd still be giving Marvel your money...

I love how Joe mentions the expected initial outrage. You know he said nothing of it lasting close to a year and still going strong.

I'm pretty sure I heard somewhere that the people at Marvel expected to hear fan outrage for at least 5 years. I could be wrong but it's not like they went into it blindly. They know the risks...

But that still does not excuse them for taking the marriage and wiping their butt with it.

What's killing the book for me right now is the pacing and the often mis-portrayal of Peter Parker.

There was a book that I used to buy after I dropped Spidey... my LCS stopped carrying it way before it got the axe... Spider-Girl... (I dropped ALL of my other books as a sign of Voting with my Wallet) I miss some of the other books but I won't buy them out of principle...

I'm betting we'll see her again by ASM #600 at the latest, seeing as how #600 is supposed to be about the would-be wedding.

However the direct market sales probably weren't expected seeing as how Slott said on the Bendis board they wouldn't make it down to 80. Also Brevoort had to make a second Q&A blog on Marvel.com, because he was just getting Spider-Man questions, and was getting irritated for not being asked about anything else.

True. I remember that....speaking of blogs, does anyone remember that they had this one blog where they gave readers a choice to pick the worst story ever told in Marvel continuity?

OMD was listed and it won by a far margin but they took it down claiming "it was still fairly new" and the runner up ended up winning. :ikyn

That would be my guess, as well. Or rather some time before that issue. And not just because issue #600 is supposed to tell us "the real story" behind the wedding that "never happened" (even though we all know it did, :cwink:) but we still have yet to see Peter figure out MJ was Robert Carr's "mystery girlfriend," what caused her and Peter to break up, and how much she still remembers.

Yup. Although, a slight correction, Styleshift. One More Day was NOT on the original list Marvel gave for their "worst Marvel story" poll and was actually a write-in by the fans. Which makes it even more telling about the higher ups at Marvel.

Ah thank you. :yay:

Isn't it kind of weird that they ignore the storyline in the entertainment media outside of the comics yet they can't stop making all those slick nods to OMD in ASM?

Well, I read through the first 4 or 5 issues at the store, and it just didn't impress me. At no point was there a story that really benefitted from the marriage being erased. Also, Peter was behaving like an irresponsible 21 year-old. Seriously, all we were missing was a hangover scene with him heating up some ramen noodles in a dirty bowl. (we've all been there)

As for dropping all of Marvel, I didn't, but my list has really shrunk, lately. I was reading a good amount of Marvel, but now I only read Amazing Spider-Girl, Amazing Spider-Man Family, Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil, Captain America, and Kick-Ass. Really, I dropped more due to the suckage of Secret Invasion that anything else. I dropped 3 Avengers books, and the core SI mini. That's 12-13 bucks back into my wallet every month.

But fear not... You might have dropped a few books but the pontential new readers will buy in order to replace you... I know some new readers WILL replace me... (and hopefully when OMD is retconned and the continuity altered by Mephisto or whatever they'll mask Mephisto's influence with is erased and we return to the real continuity I will return to buying...)

If they can keep it at least above 60K they most likely will still call it a successful reboot. Point and Case? OMD they lied their tails off saying its so heart warming and was sucessful.

This is NOT by any means a successful reboot.

These guys just want to play with silver age spider-man. They can't accept that his character has progressed past that point years ago.

But it's not even a "reboot"...

A "reboot" entails that all that happened before never did and it's a fresh new beginning.

This story is a continuation of what had happened before... yes, BND was a good "jumping on point" for new readers, but Spidey's history is still intact with the "marriage" never happening (from everybody's POV at this point, because we all know that it did until the Mephisto deal).

And c'mon... the Silver Age ended in 1973... and Spider-Man was single for another 14 years after that, so yes, while the stories are somewhat reminiscent of the Silver Age, they're basically what they are supposed to be... the adventures of a born loser named Peter Parker whoi has these incredible powers and his sense of guilt keeps him from staying the hero, even when it comes between his own personal life and those he loves.

:yay:

I am not gonna argue, but this definitely fits my definition of a reboot.

If not, it's a totally complete alternate timeline or strange pocket universe.

Kind of like a Brand New Day ?

Sorry, TMOB, I couldn't resist...:cwink:

I don't want to argue neither, but I don't see it as a reboot, because the past still occured "as is"... with the exception of the marriage.

It's not like time travel stories haven't occured in past Marvel stories that might have had an effect in the future... for example, in FF #5, the boys go back in time to get BlackBeard's treasure, and as it turns out, the Thing becomes BlackBeard...

You know, I know that many of you anti-new Spidey direction people have major beefs about the current direction of ASM not so much because of the lack of the "marriage", but moreso in how it was handled, ie the deal with Mephisto... and maybe it was a bit much, I know it was for many people who like the new direction, but there comes a time when you have to let it go... it happened... these are comics... things constantly change, some in ways that you like, and some in ways that you don't...

C'est la vie... :csad:

Oh believe me. While I was typing that post up, It confused me very much so. :o

Usually Retcons aren't marketed as massively as "Brand New Day" is/was.
I realize reboots are throwing out everything that came before, but I was just taking in consideration of the way it was presented.

I mostly consider it a reboot because they threw out so many concepts that were running in the book at the time. Its alot similar to the 1999 "Reboot".

  • The other
  • The unmasking
  • The Spider-marriage
  • Peter Parker fugitive
  • The mystical Spider totem event

I hate bending definitions but this is similar to saying Brand New Day is just an event. I could make some very good points about that as well...

See....look at it this way.

A "reboot" entails that all that happened before never did and it's a fresh new beginning.

If you describe it that way as Joe Quesada did in the article about One More Day than it is a reboot.
Bat fans never have interesting conversations like this.... :yay:

(Note: I hated the other and the stingers but I liked how it addressed that Peter has never taken an in depth look at his powers before. I think alot of these themes should have ran in the book for a while instead of just becoming throw away IMPORTANT concepts to the Spider mythos.)
