Modelling and Painting

Snipped all the individual pieces and smoothed the edges over, had to make sure it snapped together before I proceeded..

Alas;

I've since disassembled it, and sprayed the inside with a black undercoat (which I'll need to spray white tomorrow) - apparently it'll help with the light kit once that's set up and installed.

The spraying has begun.

I've gone with a black (and then white) undercoat on the inside - I've read that it enhances the light kit. I've also given it a grey primer outside, but now I'm torn between a white finish, or a grey/metallic one.

The ship (as it was seen on screen) is definitely a grey-metallic kinda deal, but both the TOS Enterprise and the JJ one aren't, neither is the Motion Picture refit.

I've already decided to go with blue bussard collectors, so I'm wondering whether to try and mimic the JJ style base paint and then apply the decals which will give it the patterned look.

The best example I've found so far, but I'm not sure whether the base colour is actually white or just a fine/light grey:

(skip to about the 30min point to see the whiteness)..

Can't do a whole lot more at the moment as I'm waiting for paint to be stocked at the local warehouse (stores are closed due to covid).

Thought I best make sure the electronics work, and to also ensure that I hadn't darkened the bussard collectors too much.

Alas

Someone should produce the Star Trek animated series Enterprise in model kit form with the squarish saucer (it wasn't meant to be square but round, but that's how it came out looking in practice).

Finished some time ago, forgot I'd posted about it here.

Still needs some touching up, but I'm waiting on both paint and inspiration.
What are the measurements on this bad boy?

What are the measurements on this bad boy?
She's about 16inches (55cm?) in length, and 7inches (19cm) in width.

As neat as it looks when lit up, the light kit is a costly piece of [insert foul word beginning with s]. Some of the lights don't work, despite my being very careful with them. Pretty sure the light kit cost more than the model and decals combined too.

The manufacturer was about as much help as a homing pigeon with no sense of direction either. In hindsight, I should've just gone with luminescent paint for the bits I wanted to light up.

I bought my first Gunpla last year to start a new hobby during the pandemic. Got all the tools and markers but haven't started building yet. :funny:

Hopefully by the time the pandemic is over, it's done so I can bring it to work and display it on my desk.

Okay, finally decided to work on my pile of shame of accumulated miniatures. A bit different from other regulars here. Doing miniatures from a game called Monsterpocalype, which was originally an prepainted CMG, but finally returned, but in a form of un painted, un assembled minis.

Tonight was mainly cleaning, in prep for assembly. My Planet Eaters, because they are my main faction, plus seems to be good to start off.

Start off with Goghadra, the starter monster. Not too bad. Biggest issues was a big chunk of resin that would prevent the head from going on. There were some bits still on the claws and shoulders that needed to be trimmed and sanded down to get the smooth appearance. The chunk at the neck took a good amount of attention.

On to Planet Eaters monster #2, Rogzor. Similar issue to Goghadra, only doubled. The legs had annoying t piece that needed to be removed for the legs to slot into the body. While smaller chunk than Goghadra's neck, annoying on how to be done twice. Luckily, the head and neck connections were clean, so no worries there. And then just some cleaning of the edges on his laser arms.

Last monster, not Planet Eaters, but Necroscourge, Gallamaxius. Also first mini with metal parts. Easiest of the three monsters. Easy to trim pieces with little smoothing needed on the wings, tail, claws, and shoulders. A little bit of trim needed in the neck to get the head to fit, but easy when compared to the previous 2 monsters.

On to the grunts, all Planet Eaters. The Belchers and Crawlers are nice one pieces. A little smoothing on the crawlers were needed, and some smoothing on the bottoms of the belchers.

The triple packs of Chompers, Explodohawks, and Destructomites were the most work of the grunts. The catipillar destructomites were easy, pretty fine out the pack. The explodohawks had a big chunk on its tiny bottom that needed to be trimmed off, so I could actually have a decent base to eventually glue to the game base. The chompers had a huge chunk that needed to be trimmed. Had to sort of make three cuts to get through the resin, with its weird T off the circle of the injection site.

First pack of full metal grunts. Luckily the Scorchers and Extermimatrix were amazingly clean, ready to be assembled.

So, that was first night. Plan on assembly of this group tomorrow. See when I can get to the priming.

They're all showing up now @Sithborg

I can't say I'm familiar with Monsterpocalype, although I have heard about their range before. The only miniatures I ever used to collect was the 40k range but they became too expensive and I stopped (that didn't however stop me from buying a couple 7" figures recently as more display pieces - I'll have to pop some photos up sometime, but they're barely started, let alone presentable).

You've certainly got your work cut out for you; that's a lot of fine detail you're going to have to master. :p

Yeah, considering this will be my first time painting minis, I am going to keep things simple. Luckily, the theme of the game, giant kaiju with a ton of call backs to the old monster movies, allows me some leeway of my inexperience as part cheesy intentional. Anyway, assembly!!!

It is a wonderful feeling to finally have some monsters assembled. Especially the starter monster Goghadra, who I had been putting off for years.

Figured I would toss some buildings into my assembly, since most of the grunts were single pieces already. No cleaning needed. Simple assembly.

And now, some closeups.

Goghadra, good monster to start with.

Rogzor, the gaps in the legs are a bit annoying, but seems sturdy enough.

Gallamaxus, a different faction monster, so why he looks different. Also learned, probably should have put the head on first before the wings.

Scorchers

And everything I put together that night.
