superhero films where at most if not all of the plot takes place during winter..

You rarely see that in superhero films, except Batman Returns.. they should do it more often..

BTW- winter doesn't necessarily mean Christmas..

I was thinking just more winter releases would be fine...

But its hard to simulate winter unless you're shooting in canada...

Then by all means shoot in Canada.

X-men was set partially in winter.......

Anyway...I feel that Captain America should be done in Winter...the WWII Stuff anyway.

Also Alpha Flight (Duh) and Wolverine could easily be done in Winter.

Huh? They have winter in other parts of the world besides just Canada. Not to mention a lot if not most of the winter scenes you see in film is actually a studio covered in synthetic snow.

How come in the first X-Men film which seems to take place over a few days there is a blizzard and extensive snow cover in Alberta but later people in New York are lounging around on the beach?

I kinda wondered that as soon as I started typin my last comment......Alberta and new York are kinda far appart, but when it's winter here and snow stormy it is highly unlikely that someone would be on the beach in New York.

I would love for a Spider-man movie to take place during winter.

Which I understood to be a challenge to shoot... I could be wrong though.

Regardless, from what I understand most Hollywood movies are shot on lots in LA and surrounding areas, Australia or Canada with limited shooting schedules in a major American cities for flavor -- something about tax writeoffs whatever that make the movies substantially cheaper. Only one with reliable snow is Canada.

batman returns pretty much nailed the winter look

it would be nice for a spidey film including kraven and the lizard, i can imagine the lizard being a holiday fairy tale...

or perhaps have a late snowy october/halloween and do it then

more snow required, imagine the effect on spidey's webslinging and wallcrawling...

or spidey-sense

Though we need more Winter movies, I think we also need more Autumn in superhero movies.

Black Widow, obviously. Maybe Iron Man could head to Siberia in film 2.

I was thinking Captain America in the snow when I first read the topic, so there's that.

Oh, how great Spidey would be during Christmas. He'd definitely have to complain that his suit doesn't keep him warm enough.

The cold weather and snow would have a big effect on Daredevil's senses. Maybe that's something that could be done in another movie...

It wouldn't be hard to see Bruce Banner getting away to some wintery tundra.

You're right, Hypestyle. There should be more winter in superhero movies!

Nolan making a Batman movie in winter would be so cool. I dont know what it is about a winter scene in a city that makes it look so gothic and dark (see Batman Returns). I think similarly toned movies wud work as well. (Daredevil, Wolverine)

I think a Crow movie would be good during winter as well. There was something poetic about the original. Snowfall would just add to that tone (of course the original needed the rain). Granted, the crow sequels all suck, but a similar situation can occur with the right character/story.

It's because the movies are released in the Summer. Batman Returns takes place in the winter during Christmas, and while I'm sure that's not the reason, it is the second lowest grossing Batman movie and showed extremely disappointing numbers for the suits.

If they're going to make a movie set in the winter, then they should release them in the winter. But studios don't want to release Superhero movies in the winter, but rather the summer. Thus 90% of superhero movies will take place around that climate and period.

Daredevil should have a winter movie. I always pair him up with a snowy Hells Kitchen.

I'd definitely like to see more winter films.

You guys are talking about films being released in the winter right? If that's the case, then yes i agree. I don't know why every superhero movie has to be a summer tentpole. I think had FF2 been released around the holidays it would have done a lot better. :o

No, like the setting should be winter.

What kind of topic of a thread is this?! A couple of superhero movies are set in winter..............although I have wondered how Spidey would feel slinging in the snow in nothing but his red and blues on. :woot:

It adds to the aesthetic element of the film. basically, it would just look cool, especially in a more gothic setting like in Batman Returns.
