What so bad about that fight scene? other than the set looking lame, the moves were pretty good

What was so bad about it? It looked completely fake. Like when Sub-Zero runs towards Scorpion and kicks him multiple times in the chest. Scorpion just stood there, having his guard wide open and not doing a damn thing. And that's not the only moment. If you carefully watch the fight, you'll notice how they almost always wait for the next punch or kick and let their guard open to be hit.

It's just really bad choreographed.

I agree, it looks like a parody of a power rangers episode.
And at the end sub zero can barely do a partial situp to grab liu kang's hand. lame.

Ok, just want to give my 2 cents on this short because I've been a big MK fan since it first came out....

Overall I really don't like it. Someone mentioned that it's too "nolanized". I see their point. You turn a villain like the Scarecrow into a business suit wearing feminine looking man who occasionally wears a potato sack on his face. A departure from the "true" character physically. But Nolan and Cillian made it work in that universe. And I hope that's the same here. I really do. Because right now I'm not diggin' the fact that Scorpion is just some bearded Joe with white eyes.

*Dramatic turn around*
"Hanzo Hasashi is dead.....call me Scorpion!"

Really? Really?
I'm also not thrilled with Dr. Baraka , Harliquin Reptile, or crime boss Shang Tsung. Seems like a Nolan thing. Just put everyone in a suit. It doesn't feel or look like Mortal Kombat. Forget all this "grounded" stuff. We have outstanding special effects in this day and age. And MK is a dark fantasy world. So why change that? I want to see that dammit. If this was a short just for the sake of a short I'd like it a whole lot more.

But I do respect this director. He made this with his will and seems to be the only one trying to push for an MK movie. I give him props for that. But, from what I've seen, I'm not liking his vision.

It's borderline silly, corny, mediocre acting, and Johny Cage dies in the first 5 minutes.

Huh.

Sounds like Annihilation.

Mediocre acting? What clip was you watching? I thought it was pretty solid. geez I guess everyone has their own opinions.
Just because Cage died in that clip doesn't mean he'll have the same fate in a full length movie....:doh:

I didn't find most of the actors too bad, but I thought Michael Jay White was putting it on a little thick.

i like how the other two just stand there and watch

Me too. I also like how Sub Zero just leaves and never shows up again for the rest of the movie. Neither does Scorpion. If it wasn't for the fact Kitana gets captured at the end you could remove that entire scene and it would not have made any difference. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Kitana was supposed to have been captured by Rain or Ermac and they changed the script last minute to get some cameos for Sub Zero and Scorpion.

whats bad? How about that kickass line by scorpion

"SUCKERRSSS""

It's funny how the "die hard fans" have already dismissed the film. I think the director is pretty aware on fan reaction about cage dying, baraka with dreads, reptile looking like a spawn character. Most of the stuff in the clip he'll scrap but he'll definitely keep that gruesome/ dark feel

Those sentiments are not just from the die hards, although you keep trying to paint it that way.

Hope you're right.

The french star power on this team is crazy...cant believe how this team should not be playing in the world cup

The Mortal Kombat lore works on screen, the first Movie already proofed that much. You just need to set the right tone and know what to cut. Like obviously the cheese and over-the-topness. There's no need for drastic changes of origins if he gets to make a full-feature movie.

The only cheese elements I remember from the first film had nothing to do with the origins. Some of the sets were cheesy for the most part, but that's a budget thing. Remember that scene where we first see Sonya shackled up in Tsung's tower? Just awful CGI. The boat when Rayden was explaining the tournament? Yikes.

The FORCED relationships between Lui/Kitana and Cage/Sonya were awful..... especially that scene with Cage on the beach telling Sonya he can't let them do anything to her. I almost threw up in my mouth. Can't forget those two *****ebag soldiers who were Goro fanatics shouting for him like obsessed fans.

...... but that's really it. Those things were campy. Not the elements pertaining to the original mythos.

I'm not a die hard fan by any means...and I think it looks interesting, but I prefer they keep some of the mystism. There is really no reason at all not to have it modern day, in our world AND have magic.

That's what he usually does in a lot of his roles. He sometimes gets too serious when talking as well as emphasizing his words too much.

It's like he tried too hard to be a badass. It also made the "Finish him." line sound forced. Not so with Tagawa, I thought all his video game lines like "Finish him.", "Your soul is mine." and "Flawless victory." sounded actually pretty good in the first Movie.

Well he is keeping the mysticism. I just think that some of the elements that were added was just to appease the suits.

Low budget or not some of the stuff that was cheesy was just plain bad creativity on the crew's part. The bad dialog and forced relationships were a bad mistake in all aspects...Sonys shackled up scene was like WTF and the change of outift was another WTF moment...
But it as u say a low budget movie so to speak, and u can't expect alot with what they were trying to accomplish.
I've stated this before I don't mind the modernization of MK might as well try something different...If a good writer/well named director was in charge they probably would of gotten a bigger budget and could of probably made the mythology work better imo.
The only thing I disliked in the new promo trailer was Baracka, and his devilish face I don't mind the dreds, but his deformed red face is terrible. O,I really liked Cage getting killed its nice to see a main good guy getting scraped once in awhile..Plus again I liked the idea of Scorpion being like a Riddick type character imo..

Yeah it did sound that way. but that's mostly becuase of the way MJW talks.

The more I think about it, the more that fake trailer sucks. Really? Everyone is all realistic and grimdark and mean for no reason? It's like someone watched Batman Begins and Casino Royale in one sitting and took the complete wrong idea from them.

The second film was awful, especially with the re-casting. Replacing Chris Lambert with James Remar as Raiden, Bridget Wilson with another blond as Sonya, Linden Ashby with someone else as Johnny Cage. I did like how Jax in the second movie was played by one of the original American Gladiators.

The one casting change I liked. I thought Bridget Wilson was awful as Sonya Blade. Sandra Hess looked good kicking ass.

I was watching the same clip as you. Obviously. Everything I've seen Jai White in he's corny as hell. And the lines he had to read here didn't help him. Now that I watch it again, the acting isn't terrible, but the dialog is nothing better then Annihilation. I understand they had to establish a lot on a short amount of time, but I simply believe it could've been presented better. And nobody knows if there's even going to be a full length movie, but everyone just loves knocking off Johnny.

Anyway,

anyone remember this live action commercial for MK 4? I remember thinking it was freaky back in the day:

i think this pwns all

meh, didn't care for Nolan-like approach to it. They tried that with Street Fighter and it didn't work, it especially doesn't work with Mortal Kombat.

I prefer the old live action television series to this, even the old movies.
