It is a rumor that is flying around that the sequel to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is under production. Not so sure that this is a good idea seeing as how Annihilation bombed very badly. But the guy directing it "Mink" (I believe he is called) is going to pull a Christopher Nolan and re-take the MK series and redo it his way and make it alot more serious than the first two.

sound interesting i wonder how he'll redo mk?

There's already a thread for all the movies.

Ya,however this thread is MK3,and the other is just MK. Though you could honestly combine the two or just rename the other one???
Though I would love to see another MK movie,I'm not sure the general public would. It would need a major overhauling to make it appeal to the masses. Needs a darker theme, little more gore, action etc....Not stick every character from game in it like MK2 tried to do(to be honest, same with xmen, kindof a detractor). Stick to a handfull of heros/villains,make sure the story has some flow to it,and the action is constant.

technically this isnt MK3, it's a restart...I personally think that the basic storyline from the original would be ok to use, but it needs to be longer, and you need to have some sort of b-plot going on as well.

so what you do, is you have quick backstories at the beginning for the human characters. You see Liu Kang training to go over, the one true believe in it all that he was in the games, you see Johnny Cage signing up for being bashed in the press, you see Sonya's partner getting killed by Kano and her going after him...but you start it all off with what everyone wants to see, Scorpion and his family being killed by Sub Zero and the Lin Kuei, and him coming back for revenge...then the only characters you have to set up are Raiden, who would be pretty much like he was in the original movie, a guide, and Shang Tsung and Goro, who dont really need that much character development...once you have the motivations down, the movie would pretty much write itself.

But Sub-Zero didn't kill Scorpion's family, Quan Chi did.

True, but we dont know that in the first game, nor does Scorpion. Sub-Zero has you know is framed so we have to frame Sub-Zero in this movie to make it seem like he killed Scorpion's family for the movies sake to stay true to the game.

Based on the information that has been leaked, "Mink" is going to re-do the entire series revolving around the entire Mortal Kombat universe. I seriously doubt he can cram pack every single MK character into the movie. But I'm sure a large number of them will be introduced. The main characters though that have to be focused on would be the ones from the first MK game. Stick with those characters for a storyline and you're basically good.

I hope for their sake they do only introduce a few good/bad guys. Lot of movies have floped because they tried to bring in too many villains, and heroes..Keep it simple, and fast paced. One thing also, that lot action movies do nowadays is get to close and personal with the fight scenes. Or they like to do that 'shaky camera trick(see bourne movies),and its not really cool in my book. I wanna see the moves, see what they are doing..

How would Reptile play in all of that?

I know the series didn't do well the first time around, but I think that this game would do much better as a TV Series.

How would Reptile play in all of that?

He'll be a secret character, once Liu Kang or one of the other fighters get a double flawless with out blocking, and knock someone in the Pit...he'll appear

Other wise, he'll be a minion to Shang Tsung - his body guard to be exact (for the movie)

the first movie was ok. i mean, its not like the games have a really deep storyline thats full and rich of everything when the first movie came out.

it did good for what it was.

mortal kombat as a movie needs to be redone. the original movie was cool but it faltered with the follow-up. and the games actually do have a pretty deep storyline it's just not implied so much when you actually played them. if you go to wikipedia and search any of the mortal kombat games you can follow the stories and they are pretty deep and intertwined through each other. multiple movies could easily be made, just not a sequel to the older ones please

My MK thread was intended for discussion of the previous two films and nay future films hence me posting news on the supposed third film and the rumored sub-zero spin-off. No harm no foul, I guess a thread just fro MK3 makes more sense.

How would Reptile play in all of that?

he wouldnt...he was a hidden character in the first game, so the only thing I would use reptile for at all is maybe hiding around the Pit area, during the duel that takes place there....then he'd get an actual role in the sequel as Shao Kahns body guard, who follows Kitana around.

I'm so behind in my MK storylines. Although, a MK restart would be interesting to see.

the games have perfect stories for all the characters so that not just liu johnny and sonya get all the screentime. it's time for sub-zero and scorpion's true stories to be bbought to everybody's attention and have that flow though a series of movies.
they should be made 2 movies at a time and released 6 months to a year apart. each being full movies with each half following the games in sequencial order (2 and 3 could be made into 1 movie). then the 3rd and 4th movies (filmed at the same time) could follow quan chi from game number 4 and then deadly alliance as the second half.

i want to see this version of raiden

That would be cool...So where did this rumor come from??

I think it would be really good if they did a sequel..
