If we'd get Reptile, really gross looking, he should be more than just someone with a skin condition. He should have claws, fangs and be able to use his acid. Not be a random serial killer who randomly knows the secret Ninja arts. And Baraka shouldn't be a Doctor, who also happens to be a expert martial artist for no real reasons.

Mortal Kombat is just not cinematic material. It's not a story.

What is this no story crap? MK has a story, and a potentially deep one at that. People consider Enter the Dragon to be one of the greatest martial arts film ever and it has LESS of a story than Mortal Kombat.

Hell, you can make a trilogy that chronicles that rise and fall of Shang Tsung and Goro. Obviously the TV series had no problem doing part of it.

Kung Lao is the monk's savior who is sent to kill Goro and Shang Tsung. After laying waste to every living thing in Outworld, he ultimately loses his life to Goro. The hundred year reign of the Champion Goro has begun. Present day, Liu Kang is called upon to finish what is ancestor started nine tournament ago. Along the way he meets allies with their own agenda, and finally defeats Shang Tsung.

And that is just the barest of the bones of the official story of MK.You cannot tell me MK is not cinematic. And why was it so hard for him to make a pitch film that resembled Mortal Kombat when another group of individuals with relatively the same budget was able to make a EXTREMELY accurate depiction of Street Fighter, complete with signature moves?

how come MORTAL KOMBAT is plagued to be a lousy movie?

Why do Directors always need to make it "there own" and it fails because people want what it is not what someone else changes it into.

the mini movie was cool to see it taken in a high reguard but other than that it didn't seem like MK to me.:csad:

^exactly

just give us what we're already fans of and don't change anything. I want the characters to look like they do in the game and for it to have a good story. I'm sick of other people's "interpretations". I couldn't care less how you envision the property, I want the og creators vision and nothing else

simple I think

because if it's a hit, it, they can take most of the credit

its more ego than anything else

Wow...It took me up until now to watch that Mortal Kombat Rebirth thing..

Now, what was the point of all that? :p

They shouldnt be. Anybody who is is basically mad over nothing. So wat if the two of them arent from outworld. It's just two character and the director has already mention that he didnt decide to completely get rid of any of the fantasy side of things. There's no need to even be mad becuase they arent even the two most important characters.

The director did say everything in the video was off Island before the tournament & that once they got to the Island then all of that crazy stuff would be seen. They just can not ditch the Ninja costumes though

while i enjoyed that little short film thing..... it was just too fan film-esque.

there's nothing wrong with Paul ws andersons mortal kombat... i liked the fantasy action adventure of it. This short looks like the story is fan fiction or max payne.

thats not what the video game was about lol

He was makin a comparison between this, the orginal, and Harry Potter. When he said that he was talking about the original Mortal Kombat. But we will see them leave from the real world to the fantasy place.

Problem right there

he did provide the first financially successful video game to film adaptation

I know its internet trendy to hate on him, but I have no quarrel with him

Or, take for example the story of Scorpion and his rivalry with Sub Zero. Scorpion's clan, the Shirai Ryu had a long and bloody rivalry with the Lin Kuei (Sub Zero's clan) that ultimately resulted in a confrontation between Scorpion and Sub Zero. Scorpion was killed by Sub Zero, but his hated was so strong even in hell that he made a deal with the evil spirits to ressurect him with the strength to take revenge.

Ultimately, Scorpion did have his revenge and killed Sub Zero. However, this younger Lin Kuei decided to follow in his brother's footsteps, and take up the Sub Zero mantle himself, and train intensively to defeat Scorpion and avenge his brother. Eventually, his exploits would take him to the ruins of an ancient race of cryomancers from outworld, who migrated to earthrealm, and the Lin Kuie clan eventually descended from them. He learned their secrets, which enhanced his powers and turned his hair white, and he also took up their traditional armor as his own.

Also, the the elder, deceased Sub Zero was be resurrected as a hellspawn much like Scorpion, because like Scorpion, the he was wicked in life and without honor. The current, younger Sub Zero would have to fight each of them, which would be emotionally difficult due to his own brother now being his enemy.

You could practically make a whole movie out of Sub Zero's story. At the very least, it would be very compelling as a large part of the narrative in a bigger movie with multiple protagonists.

didn't the director of MK1 direct the god awful AVP?

i thought the first MK movie was OK at best, it had charm from the actors except Sonya she was annoying...it was boring and took out what MK truly was...violent and Gruesome.

We need an EPIC martial arts movie with fantasy/horror/gore ASAP and MK should be that in its true form.

like come on how the F long do we have to wait for a true Mortal Kombat movie??
The artist who created the looks and creatures in the games is what the fans want i think..

Gritty fighting is cool and all..
but i want other worldly fighting. it doesn't have to be strings at all look at what Ray Park could do in phantom Menace when he flips through the air with no strings... just get martial artists that make it seem like they defy gravity with there skills.

uh, yeah I think they have made 2 movies off of "lets have it exactly as 2 dimensional as the games were" in the 90's, im sure you dont remember.

He also directed all of the crappy Resident Evil movies. As far as I know, the only good movies he's made are Event Horizon and the first Mortal Kombat.

he makes movies very mediocre...

he got progressively worse after MK.

What exactly is the MK story? I mean I understand it's a fighting tournament of all these random people, but why is there a tournament? What's the story?

Basically, an inter-dimensional warlord named Shao Khan wants to conquer Earth, but do to the laws of his world he is not allowed to enter our dimension unless his champion can defeat a champion representing Earth. Thus, the Mortal Kombat tournament is formed to determine which Earth warrior will face Shao Khan. There are good beings known by Earth's inhabitants as The Elder Gods who enforce inter dimensional law, and they send the lesser god Raiden to aid Earth's warriors and participate in the tournament. That is the premise in a nutshell, but there's tons of separate storylines for each character.

To this day that's one of the most badass live action game commercials ever made IMO.
