isn't WB developing a movie? most of the positive feedback that last summer's fan made video got supposedly put things in motion over at WB to start up a new film

i liked that video. just hope they don't try to go that "realistic" route the director was trying to accomplish. the tone, setting, and overall filming was great. and i think that Michael Jai White would make a perfect Jax. i just hope they don't kill off Johnny Cage

yeah i got to most the MK sites and people really inerpret things wrong, even when they are cut and dry in the article. I have the scans if you want to see i can send them to you and you can read for yourself (never fails to amaze me that people can interpret thigsn so wrong when its so clear in the article thats why i like to read everything for myself, i even picked up on things that werent mentioned by other posters)

I'm all for Rebirth getting made and I'm the biggest MK fan on this board. No, its not the original canon but at this point: I DON'T CARE, Why? Because the game's canon has been rehashed over and over and over again even with the new game. I wanted something NEW out of the series and rebirth was just that. If rebirth doesn't get made I hope they at least keep the tone of rebirth, no PG13 cheeseball ********. Give the film a hard R rating and treat the subject matter with the respect it deserves. Make a MK film for adults.

why would you want an MK movie thats not like MK in the SLIGHTEST? why dont they just call it "nasty disfigured showdown" and make it its own movie and save the real MK fans the grief. The new SF movie was different from SF and "new" and it ended up sucking unbelievable balls. Lets not forget the most successful video game movie was the first MK, and why do you think that is? becuase it was FAITHFUL to the source material, and gave people what they wanted which is the property they know and love represented on screen

Maybe because the same story has been drawn out for the past umpteen years. It's about time MK had a fresh start, and given the fact that they chose to go with more of a sense of realism is interesting, given the fact that MK is known for being over-the-top and gory. You make mention of the SF film that came out a couple of years ago, what hurt them is the fact that they made a film based on a character that is popular yes, but not the face of Street Fighter, so Chun Li didn't have that much credibility to grant her a film telling her story. Fans wanted to see Ryu and Ken. Give Rebirth a chance, I'm hoping with MK going in that direction, they can come up with some newer games that dont have to be stand alone fighting games.

Actually, the way the director spoke about his vision, was more in a sense of the way humans see things. But then they would travel to the Island and the unatural elements would kick in so, all in all, that movie would get quite faithful to the mythos.

Kinda like Harry Potter: You start in the real world but then transition into the magical world where all the weird **** happens.

outside of those character description, it was nothing like mortal kombat. it's no different than saying hancock is the same as superman because hancock is a superhero who flies, is super strong and has super speed

not that i would be against seeing that movie come to life because it is a very cool take and i think if there was an actual movie, it would be closer to the games, but as of right now, lets not call apples oranges because they are both fruits.

that is only one small part of their character. For me seeing some person who is a 'psychotic berzerker' doesnt make him Baraka, Baraka is much more then that, you cant just take one small character trait, change EVERYTHING else, and say "see its the same character, he also gets violently pissed!"

Well I'm not gonna knock the guy who did MK Rebirth, he was trying to bring something new to the table, and when you look at the idea on paper, it may sound absurd, but the direction that he was taking with MK was interesting. You only got to see brief glimpses of a few characters, so we don't know exactly how each of the characters would have matched up with the game counterparts. The first MK film did stay true to the game, but it did take liberties as well, Annihilation tried to throw every character that was in the MK game at the time into one film which turned out to be a catastophe. The third film has been sitting in developement hell for God knows how long, so I can see the director not wanting to go the route of the other films.

Scorpion is the exact same character in rebirth as he his in the games sans all the Netherrealm business which isn't what defines him as character. Revenge is what defines Scorpion and he's still out for revenge in Rebirth. Johnny Cage taking a drag off his cigar before he dies is about as JC as you can get. Reptile's and Baraka are both are Shang Tsung's lackeys and in Rebirth they still may be. There's nothing to support the contrary.Sonya and Jax are still out to stop Shang Tsung and presumably The Black Dragon. The only real difference is they're detectives.... which in my opinion works a lot better than the special forces angle.

I like Kenshi, but he's redundant now with Ermac in. The only other character Id like to see is Quan Chi

Honestly, I cared very little for post MK3 characters. The only ones I kinda give a darn are Quan Chi, Shinnok, Taven and Blaze.

And I didn't like that Rebirth reinvention. I hope they don't go that route.
