Moviebob discusses the cult class, Transformers 1986, which is easily the greatest of all the transformers movies:

Transformers 1986 is a great film, those who have not seen it should track it down. It has great design, music, a functional plot, hero's journey, and a theme.

"One dimensional characters" to "compelling characters"...
He said that second line about every other character after saying the "Compelling characters are gone"

It was somewhat of a repetitive review, regardless there is still good content and I think it's time this movie be evaluated as a genuinely good one, or that we simply discuss it.

I don't like this movie, I think it's worse than the first Bayformers movie.

Okay , I saw this one back in the day, and loved it.

Seeing it more recently, it wasn't quite as good but it's still hands down the best transformers film, and better than any of the live action stuff. And of course real 80s synthesizer rock makes it cooler.

What got me
was how many autobots get killed early on in the film , although it's kind of dumb that they can put Ultra Magnus back together after he's blown to bits, but can't fix Prime's injuries.

Still, putting that aside it's good fun, I wouldn't say its a great film, but it ain't bad at all !

The movie is nostalgia fun. The animation at times is awesome. However, it's choppy as hell.
Loved: transformers actually transform and do it while fighting.
Hated: what happened to Prowl, he was my childhood favorite.
Laughed at : Astro Train is probably a medium sized transformer but when he is a space shuttle he can fit like 50 decepticons inside him.

Yeah, that was ridiculous even in 1986. I felt sorry for Ironhide,he was one of my favorite transformers and he gets blown to bits very early on - in fact at that point of the movie I wondered why, if it was so easy to kill autobots, that the decepticons didn't just do it in the first episode.

Also, I wondered why Optimus Prime could die from an abdominal wound, yet Ultra Magnus could be blown into tiny pieces and then reassembled.

Still, it was great fun and I loved the 80s rock soundtrack.
