Movies that Define Your Childhood

I see a common theme with the majority of these posts...can we all agree that the 80's were just a goldmine for film in general? :woot:

You know, for me personally, I actually didn't get to go to the movies a lot as a kid, for whatever reason, so all of my picks were movies that I discovered once they were available on VHS. And then I wore those VHS tapes OUT. Man, what I would give to have actually watched some of these films in a movie theater. To hear Danny Elfman's Batman theme or Brad Fiedel's Terminator score swell up on the big screen with loud surround sound, that must've been an incredible experience for those of you who got to experience that.

They were for us oldies yep :woot:

Born '78. First three movies I remember (and also happened to love):

Superman: The Movie.
Broke my thumb trying to fly off a cupboard.

Close encounters of the third kind.
Got a hiding trying to make a mountain out of my mashed potato at dinner.

The never-ending story.
Tried to ride our St. Bernard. Was thrown, coccyx hurt like hell!

Great times!

Some more from me (sorry to those who did not grow up in the 80s)

Technically....I'm probably not allowed to give an answer in this thread.....because I was born in 1957.....my childhood was in the 60's....and there was no VHS tapes to wear out then.

So instead I have to list the three movies that tried to wear out in the theaters. I was out of high school, had a job, and went to the theater multiple times to watch a few movies over and over that made me feel like a child again...

STAR WARS
SUPERMAN
SUPERMAN II

The Golden Child was the first movie I remember watching and it traumatized me for decades.

Also there was a Japanese version of The Little Mermaid that came out in 1979 and I watched it as a kid; it still makes me cry to this day.

The Wiz
House Party 3
Polly (black version of Pollyanna)
Aladdin
Lion King
Batman Returns
Moonwalker
Goonies
The Last Unicorn
Carebears II

TV
Rainbow Brite
Carebears
Strawberry Shortcake

I could have selected any of the SW movies but ESB was the first one to have a really emotional impact on me when Boba flew off with Han. Temple of Doom was my introduction to the greatest adveturer in movie history and one of my all time favourite characters, yes, I saw it before Raiders. Last but not least for a long time Jurassic Park was the greatest cinema experience I'd had.
