Well, the Battledroids were designed and programmed to be soldiers, but ended up being target practice, so technically that's correct.

I didn't see anything in the OP that specifically asked for machines going against their original programming; just "run amok." Lucas' battledroids definitely "ran amok."

Metropolis? That's where Superman lives, right? Who's the lady? Margot Kidder? I don't remember that part from the movie.
