Moving to Cali

yea but the hills are a bit to expensive, my sisters just want to live anywhere thats close enough to UCLA, we don't care if itl be a 20 min to an hour commute.

also il look any job listings a few months before we move, that way i can be assured a job after i move out there.


i may also be moving with 3 friends of mine, we all share the same business dream, skate and surf shop.

i can do inventory, my friend Louis is great with business he went to schooling for it, as well as Sean, and my friend thatcher knows alot about boards clothing shoes and such so hed be good with inventory too, we just have to pool our money, buy a cheap enough store buy bulk items and advertise and hopefully we do well, i don't care how much time money and effort goes in, were gonna make it happen.

we have to do alot of research before hand.

If you want to be near the beach as well as the Westwood area (UCLA) I would look at Santa Monica or Venice but I would have no clue as to how good a surf shop would do there given the competition.

And Beverly Hills has a range of pricing which goes from the relatively cheap to the uber expensive unlike Bel Air which goes from very expensive to uber expensive.

Some parts of Long Beach is good, mostly downtown if you can afford it. Santa Anna is probably the worst city in the O.C. Carson is right next to Compton and Whittier is mostly a mexican neighborhood.

With a second rate education, all you can hope for is a second rate job. If you move to a "popular" place (like the coast), it's harder to find a job because there are more folks looking for work there (more competition). Before you make the move, get some papers from the area, see how easy it would be to find a job that would suit you.

As far as starting your own business with your friends go, it's a great way to lose your friends and most new businesses tank in the first year.

Those options aren't bad but you were talking about wanting to be close to UCLA earlier, and those aren't close.

Honestly your best option is not southern california. I mean, there's already plenty of people with g.e.d.s working around here. There are already more skate and surf shops than you could imagine. I mean, you're talking about trying to make it in a place where you have no advantage over people who are already here. Maybe you should look at Oregon...

You are missing out on the college experience if you don't go to a university and while part of it is partying, booze and girls, it's also learning to manage your time, getting your toes in the water to learn to live on your own, plus the course work is A LOT more difficult. I went to a four-year university and needed to take two science classes, one I took at the university, one during the summer at a community college, the unversity course was very difficult, the community college course was a cakewalk and they were both courses I did well in at high school. Community college while a good choice for some people, is really just high school v2.0, living away from home at a four-year University is much, much different because while there's the in class lessons at both, the out of class learning is much greater at the University.

You should move to Santa Monica and go to SCC. SCC has the most transferable credits.

Yes Inglewood is predom..Black..Santa Ana is Predom Hispanc... Whittier.. the MORE affordable(in the HILLS there's MAnsions) is predom Hispanic

well i've been put down all my life, and this is something i really want to do, i can learn on my own time about opening a business, i can ask my friend Cory, his dad owns one, my dad owns one i can ask him too.

and i don't want to work at fast food places, i wanna do something great with my life.

One of the best ways to change that is change things in your life, complete high school, respect the rules so your not getting suspended within the first month, get a part-time job. I am just saying that it is possible - in fact one of the best people I know had to drop out of school to work full time, went back, got her GED and hopes to start her own restaurant. She is an amazingly smart, gifted, hard working person - so I would like to think that she has a chance.

Also if you're too lazy to put in the work for school, where will the motivation to put the work into your business come from. I can guarantee it's gonna be infinitely more work than high school, are you prepared to put in 70-80 hours a week to get this off the ground. Also you're gonna need a loan, who's gonna lend money to a kid who was to lazy to finish high school?

no, because class sizes were the same if not bigger at the CC! The university I attended had stupid requirements, minimum writing and group work for all subjects. Given that most the subjects I took were ones I'd expect to do a lot writing in and welcomed it, I didn't feel like taking the time to do book reports for math.
