Sequels Mr. Sinister Casting Thread

Definitely would love to see Johnny Depp as Sinister. That is my only possible choice for such a wonderful and complex character. I see him as a founder and a leader of the Hellfire Club in the movie-verse, and I think that only Depp is capable of bringing that mystic persona to life.

johnny deep?......... not sure.... isn't old enough for the role, I think. but of course he could do it, but now when I see him I see Jack Sparrow, hahaha, but don't know... not sure if Fox want to sing him, being in Pirates... but would be interesting to see.

I could see it. Maybe I'm the only one but I could see it. I want anyone but Depp. Everyone wants Depp in everything.

Depp, though, has displayed he can play these Victorian-era characters, he seems to be the right age for Sinister, and with his hair slicked back, I find there to be a strong resemblance between Depp and Sinister. However, that resemblance is entirely or generally based on the Greg Land Mr. Sinister X-Men cover I posted a link to in the thread's first post. I feel that's a great look for Sinister, and the costume in that pic is awesome, too.:word:

This guy, Kevin Tod Smith, Ares, from Hercules and Xena, had he not died, would have been the quintessential Mr. Sinister. I still say Johnny Depp should play him, too. Sorry for all the links!:wow::O:dry:

Why, when casting a superhero film, do Billy Zane and Vince Vaughn's names come into play for every freaking role? Neither of them are that impressive.

Hmm...I'm thinking Jeremy Irons or perhaps Rufus Sewell.

I can see that with Vaughn but Billy Zane has shown he can rise to the occasion when given a meaty role. I really feel Zane can lend the part some attitude. Jeremy Irons is probably a little to old but he is ALWAYS impressive.

i think johnny depp would fit well if they chose to go the route of a sinister that was more of an aristocrat. but for some reason, i've always pictured nathaniel essex to be more imposing (ie. bigger, and more of a bully).

seriously, anyone can be made to look like sinister with the right makeup and dress. my pick is gerard butler after seeing those stills from 300. woof!

Well, there is a strong resemblance--at least I think--between Zane and Sinister, and it's obvious he can play a terrifying villain like that. He's not my first choice, though. He just seems to have a been a favorite choice among fans. I'm most in favor of Johnny Depp.

Agreed. About Jeremy Irons, in his younger days, he would've been the ideal choice.

I like your thoughts. About Johnny Depp as Sinister, the character doesn't need to be all that big to be intimidating (i.e., Sabretooth). It has a lot to do with Sinister's amazing powers, invincibility (except for Cyclops' optic energy), voice, vampiric appearence, genious, and the fact that he's completley cold-hearted, that make him such a scary villain. And the fact that he's sheer evil, and has the powers that he does, is especially terrifying.

Gerard Butler occured to me, too! Judging by the 300 ads, it seems he'd be an excellent Sinister! I LIKE the "big-bully" route! Plus, Butler was Dracula in Dracula 2000! Incidentally, as in Donnie Brasco, Johnny Depp has displayed he can bulk up for a role.

Gerard Butler:

what about jeremy irons? I think Sinister should be a mature actor, but not in the age of Magneto, to have something of difference.

Jeremy Irons is great, but clearly, Nathaniel Essex became Mr. Sinister at a much younger age--30's to 40-ish. Also, Jeremy Irons is known for playing these kind of roles. I'd like to see an actor play Mr. Sinister not so easily recognized (Gerard Butler or Thomas Ian Griffith), or one not known for these kind of roles (Johnny Depp). But I would be fine with Jeremy Irons being cast. He would do a good job.:word:

If you want a younger Sinister, Rufus Sewell would be a great choice. Irons is clearly a choice geared toward an older Sinister concept.

As for resemblances...Mr. Sinister in the comics is a DRAWING. A square-jawed man with cheekbones. Those exist all over the place in Hollywood. Being a square jawed man with cheekbones (Zane) is not enough reason to cast someone in a role. They have to be able to NAIL the role as few else could.

Whats the matter with you people, Its Garry Oldman, allways has been always will be.

here's an interesting semi unknown, Marcus Jean Pirae

For the love of whatever it is you may hold holy, no Depp or Vaughn. It's that kind of mainstream attention span that has already ruined the Iron Man movie. There are more then five actors who can play a role, the fact that they are well known for other characters makes them that much more unsuitable. When I go to watch a movie, I want to be convinced for the two and a half hours I paid for it. I don't want to see Depp with white face paint play the same tiresome character.

To the point, I've always thought that Julian McMahon would make an interesting Sinister, but unfortunately they've already tagged him for Doom. I had another actor in mind, but in my rant against mainstream actors fulfilling every roles caused me to forget it. To be continued.

Here's a random idea of awesome novelty, what about Bruce Campbell? He's a good actor and a chameleon when it comes to portraying different characters.

and I hope they don't call him Mr. Sinister. Sinister or just Nathaniel Essex would be fine.

Bruce Campbell would be fine with me! Good idea! He even played a demon on an episode of The X-Files!

Agreed. A lesser-known actor would be good.

What Sinister DOES should make him intimidating. Not his powers.

I love Gerard Butler, and considered him briefly, but he often has trouble disguising his thick accent, which causes a problem for a Victorian character.

What's wrong with a mainstream actor in the role? Irons would be fantastic, as would a number of known and established actors. Remember, for all the *****ing about "known actors" in superhero movies, Liam Neeson and Kevin Spacey nailed Ra's Al Ghul and Lex Luthor, respectively, and Willem Dafoe was a fantastic Norman Osborne. Jack Nicholson made a great Joker, despite being very well known. Even Julian McMahon has to be considered somewhat mainstream because of his work on NIP/TUCK. And hey, Morgan Freeman was Lucius Fox. As long as the actor for a given role can act and is convincing in the part, and isn't a megastar, then I'm all for it.
