Watch the commentary for the Ghost Rider DVD and on the scene with the goth girl he mentions fans being mad about humor being added into their movie and that certain message boards would complain about it and have "DUMP THE GOTH GIRL! VOTE HERE" and he'd say "no way she's funny. She's staying".

I was laughing pretty hard. It's a nod to us, I think.:p

LOL, thats funny. Well at least we know he was listening to us.

Wonder if there's a hidden easter egg?

I liked it.

I respect the movie for what it was a bit more after watching/listening to it. I understand some of his mistakes now.

Still, Ghost Rider's crap lines weren't needed.

Was the commentary any good?

I just watched the Extended Cut, without any commentary or anything.

Though, usually I am interested into the commentaries and what they have to say about each scene.
I'm going to watch it with the commentaries tonight myself.
I'm surprised that FH, BG and MM were even mentioned for the premire.

I watched it with commentary tonight...I am SO dissapointed in MSJ.

I was shocked at how many mistakes were made during the production of this movie.

Let's start with the main issue..the budget. Almost every scene was done in a stage w/some sort of CG effect overlay in it...no wonder MSJ ran out of money so quickly! 110 Million dollars should have been more than enough for a GR movie. This movie was horribily mismanaged. For example, that damn tree where young JB and Roxy were kissing under was FAKE! Get this...it cost them over $100,000! Is there not any trees anywhere else in the world that he could have filmed that??? Thats just one example.

He contradicted himself a few times during the commentary...he kept saying how a chain smoking, Jack Daniels drinking Johnny Blaze was cliche and corny (as if selling your soul will make you silly and not depressed). HOWEVER, he later admits he knew that the last kiss and carving their names into the tree was corny, and Kevin Mack thought the 'flash back' scene of Roxeanne waving and smiling right before his interview was important (Oh please)...He kept lots of cliche and corny things in anyways citing that Ghost Rider had an excuse to be corny. I guess he doesnt realize this is confusing the movie goer, and is an insult to the real fans. He WANTED To make the movie corny...citing the title character was corny...if thats what you thought of Ghost Rider, don't DIRECT it!

I also learned from the commentary that MSJ has a real knack for comedy...the Goth Girl especially which he loved...if he thinks that girl is important in the movie....he is out of his mind....there is enough crazy, quirky things in the movie already. Other scenes that he thought were funny were just....not funny to me..some of which went unnoticed until he brought it up during the commentary...I'm having a feeling we got the wrong director here.

Hellboy got the Director from the movie Cronos & Blade 2, Batman got the director of Memento and the Prestige, we got the director of Grumpy old Men and Simon Birch....whats wrong with this picture here ??

MSJ is right, he should go back to his roots (comedy) and stop trying to make kid movies out of dark and intense comic characaters...characters that deserve a GREAT movie. I wonder what the hell he's going to do with Preacher now??

I really lost a lot of respect for him as a director after watching that commentary. He really was the wrong director and screenwriter for this movie.

How many of you were Fans of the old monster Flicks? Because if you weren't, Marc's vision fits into that Catagory easily.
Man I love this flick because I'm a fan of those old Monster movies. I think Marc did a great job copying that era.

it was a great movie. good writing, good script, good story. effects and looks were nailed. i really had no complaints about it at all. my wife enjoyed it as well. i can't think of a "crap line" or any real cheesy lines/dialogue that made me roll my eyes.

it was a horrible movie. bad writing, bad script, bad story. effects were good but the looks werent. i have every complaint about it. my friends hated it. i can think of every crap line and every cheesy line that made me want to gouge my eyes out.

I generally agree with you, however there was a good amount of needless cheese/crap line. 1- yee haw when he lassod the copter 2- when the cop knocked his jaw loose, they played that cornball music while GR was waving his finger 3- "surprise" when he trans fighting wallow. 4- I also didn't like when he cracked his knuckles in jail. Theres more cheese/craplines, but some I don't mind, these were the ones that bothered me. Still thought it was a great movie, especially when you keep in mind that marvel insisted on a pg13 and there really is a certain amount of logic to making the movie widely acceptable to people who no nothing about the comic

PS I agree with vartha about the classic monster movie stuff too.

Of those I actually liked the cracking of the knuckles.

It actually looks cool in Black and White, the 2nd time I watched the dvd I turned off the color.

I actually came into this movie with a clean slate, I never read any of the ghost rider comics, and I liked the movie.

I enjoyed it for what it was. It always helps to have super low expectations as well. I generally like MSJ. He seems willing to at least make the effort, but every time I think of him being the driving force behind Preacher, I die a little inside. :(

Have you guys puased the DVD at the Cross roads scene with young Johnny and Mephostoles's HEAD appears? Talk about quick flash of his looks. I'll post a pic later if you want.
