MTV developing Scream series

Just binge watched the season and caught up. Have to say, very entertaining and fun, and there were some surprisingly brutal kills and well-executed tense sequences too. I enjoyed it overall and like the seeds they planted for season 2. I think they gave themselves some wiggle room. All signs point towards [BLACKOUT]Audrey[/BLACKOUT] being a second killer, but they could easily write [BLACKOUT]her[/BLACKOUT] as a major red herring next season too.

My only gripe with this show is the fact that it's so pop culture savvy, yet it has to pretend the Scream movies don't exist. It just drives me nuts for some reason that Noah is a pop culture/genre encyclopedia and he lives in a world where Scream doesn't exist and he doesn't realize he is Randy. I know it's probably anal on my part lol. I do understand and respect the choice...going too meta has the potential to fold in on itself and get too cutesy as we saw with Scream 4. I guess I just feel like the Scream movies are classics in their own right, especially the first movie, and are worthy of being directly referenced alongside the others. Turning Scream into a catch-all "teen meta horror" franchise does make sense, but as a huge fan of the movies it's still kind of hard to let go of the old continuity completely. Feels even more bittersweet now that Wes is gone. I did appreciate all the homages of course.

The thing is though...the real source of the meta-ness of the original film is that the killers (especially Billy) are obsessed with horror movies and want their victims to feel like they're in a horror movie. In the show...we're just kind of showered with self-aware references with Noah filling in the Randy role and providing the bulk of that commentary, but ultimately that stuff is just kind of peppered in there because it's Scream and it needs to be there. I did miss that organic link though, because it made it feel less like 4th wall breaking when the characters compared their own situation to horror movies.

Piper being the killer was clever though, kind of the 2015 equivalent of Gale being the killer, and it keeps the aspect of the killer wanting to construct a narrative around the killings. As someone who was addicted to the Serial podcast, I got a kick out of that even though I saw it coming. And if Audrey really is a second killer, she's a genre geek so that could address my above point.

Overall, I'll definitely be watching next season. Expectations exceeded, despite some my petty little gripes.

They should at least have made a joke about the Stab series, since the 'Scream' quadrilogy's events happened in "real-life".

Saw Netflix put this up today. On the third episode now. Much better than the trailers made it look.

Watched the first three episodes on Netflix yesterday morning. It kinda sucks. Awful mask, awful voice, really lame kills (you can tell Wes Craven didn't make it) Doesn't really feel Scream related at all.

People who go in expecting a remake/televised sequel to the movies are going to be disappointed. It is more of a reimagining than anything.

MTV's 'Scream' Replaces Showrunners
Season one co-showrunners Jill Blotevogel and Jaime Paglia are stepping down, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Instead, frequent collaborators Michael Gans and Richard Register (Make It or Break It, Celebrity Deathmatch) will serve as showrunners for the second season of the horror remake from Dimension Television. Blotevogel will remain with the series as a consultant, while Paglia will no longer be involved with the show.

Sources say producers Dimension TV — whose film arm produced the Kevin Williamson franchise that the series is based on — were unhappy with the creative direction of the revival.

Scream Queens is doing horror meta comedy a lot better than this sad and boring series did. Even the little good this show did, feels naught after Queens.

Scream is doing the meta stuff only half-heartedly,because it's Scream so you're supposed to. Scream Queens is bats**t crazy go-for-broke and see what sticks. I like both shows, but they're different animals.

Scream Queens is much more of a comedy than even the Scream movies. Bad comparison.

Alot about Scream Queens wore thin for me and I think I'll be okay if that doesn't get another season, but the Audrey reveal in the finale of this show has me pumped for season 2.

MTV sets Scream season 2 premiere, announces new cast
BY NATALIE ABRAMS

MTV has set the premiere date for Scream’s return, along with announcing the new cast joining in season 2.

The second season picks up with Emma’s (Willa Fitzgerald) return to Lakewood after spending several months trying to recover at a retreat — though most wonder whether she truly has moved on. Meanwhile, Audrey (Bex Taylor-Klaus) hides her connection to the Killer, but is getting harassed by someone who knows the truth. Brooke (Carlson Young) and Jake (Tom Maden) are also keeping their budding romance a secret from Mayor Maddox, while Noah (John Karna) grows closer to the truth about the season 1 murders. (Tracy Middendorf and Amadeus Serafini are also slated to return.)

Lakewood’s murderous past, both recent and distant, is brought into focus, with this Killer’s psychotic mind game intent on bringing the town’s heroes down in a storm of betrayal and bloodshed.

Among the new cast: Kiana Lede as Zoe, a driven overachiever who harbors a secret; Santiago Segura as Gustavo Acosta, a dark and brooding outsider and skilled artist who’s deeply into horror, serial killers and comic books; Anthony Ruivivar as Sheriff Michael Acosta, an outspoken and experienced cop who returns to his hometown of Lakewood along with his son Gustavo; Austin Highsmith as Karen Lang, an idealistic psychology teacher who becomes a confidant and mentor to her students; Sean Grandillo as Eli, Kieran’s (Serafini) cousin, who presents as squeaky clean, but may have ulterior motives; and Karina Logue as Tina Hudson, who’s proper and polite, but with a grifter’s sense of self-reliance.

As previously announced, Michael Gans and Richard Register will now serve as executive producers and showrunners, replacing season 1 showrunners Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia.

Scream will return for season 2 on Tuesday, May 31 at 10 p.m. ET on MTV.

FINALLY... I had almost forgotten about this...

Awesome can't wait for season 2. Been waiting for an announcement for blu ray/DVD release.

My feelings on this show are pretty much wrapped up with:

Eh.

I just don't hate it, nor do I love it. It simply exists.

If the show had better actors, a better leading character who didn't have the personality of a wet cardboard box in an alleyway, etc. It'd rise above eh for me at least a bit.

I'm mixed on this. Have high hopes for the first season but turns out to be disappointing.

Here's the reasons why it has been a letdown for me...
Too many people survived the first season. Not enough deaths. And the one cute, hot guy that I really care about, Will Belmont...they had to kill him off.

And the big reveal.....turns out the killer is that female reporter and maybe Audrey. I'm not really a fan of female serial killers. They look so corny, laughable and totally unbelievable. Example: Brenda Bates in Urband Legend, Jill in Scream 4. Can you believe that female reporter,Piper has the strength and ability to commit all those murders? I don't. It would have been more realistic if the killer turn out to be a male instead.

So basically you think a woman is incapable of the strength to kill people despite some of the most notorious killers in reality actually being women?

Cool story, bro.

Sorry. I didn't meant to offend anybody.

I just feel that a male serial killer would have been more believable, that's all.

Anyway, the actress playing Piper, I feel that her acting is cringe worthy, like nails on a chalk board when she's delivering that villain's monologue.

It's almost as bad as Brenda in Urband Legend and Jill in Scream 4. She just doesn't look and sound deranged and psychotic enough.

I don't know. Most young actresses can't really pull off a good performance as a crazy serial killer without going overboard or being lame.

But I do like and enjoy Laurie Metcalf as Debbie Salt in Scream 2. Her performance and acting was really great and superb. I think that is the only exception for me.

But these are just my own opinions and I don't meant to offend anyone. Sorry.

This is freaking MTV. I guarantee that a male would've given the exact same monologue in just as equal terrible fashion.

Like what I'm seeing so far. It will be interesting to see what Audrey's involvement was.

Piper may not have been the most imposing woman, but pretty much everything the killer did in season 1, she could have done. Aside from maybe overpowering Will and strap him to that chair, though he was still injured and recovering at that time, so even that sounds believable. Not to mention we don't know how much the accomplice was involved. We know he/she was wearing the mask when Will was first taken, since Piper was present during the attack, but that doesn't rule out the possibility of the accomplice being around for the other murders.

And the amount of survivors kinda makes sense. Now we have all these characters whom we got to know, so the impact when they die in season 2 will be even bigger. It's like Noah said during the pilot: You need to care about the characters, so when someone gets brutally murdered, it hurts.

As a huge fan of the Scream franchise, I was expecting to absolutely hate this series but I was oh, so wrong. I was shocked by how much I ended up liking it, by the end of the season I was getting super hyped week after week. Even the mask which I thought looked awful ended up growing on me (still got nothing on the classic though).

The DVD just came out yesterday, just ordered a copy from Amazon and looking forward to rewatching before S2!
