MTV developing Scream series

Kinda disappointed with the special, but oh well. I was really hoping for Ghostface to show up and actually save Emma from Alex (or Tom or whatever his name was), as a way of letting her know she's his kill and no one else's.

There's one thing I don't quite get though. If the fake Alex killed everyone, why was it Ghostface/Brandon James-killer who called Emma to turn on the porch lights?

Fake Alex said something about making that call. I guess the Ghostface voice comes from an app that's easy to access.

Guessing [blackout]Emma's dad at Kieran's grave[/blackout] was a red herring.

That kinda sucks, but could also be good for the show.

It's actually what I wanted to happen with Season 2 but with them having loose plot threads it's annoying. They should have wrapped it up with the Halloween special.

Well that news is disappointing. Glad they want to keep the show going, but I would have liked to see them finish the current storyline first.

Exactly. In stead of giving us that lame "new story" that barely had any consequences, they should've finished it all with a 90 minute tv-movie.

I wonder if they'll change the mask and costume up, seeing how in seasons 1 and 2, the mask belonged to Brandon James.

Scream Update: New Showrunner, EPs Announced Ahead of Season 3 Reboot
In addition to a new cast and storyline, the network has announced that Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) will serve as the series’ new showrunner. Queen Latifah, Shakim Conpere and Yaneley Arty are also joining as executive producers for Flavor Unit Entertainment.
Brett Matthews got his start as Joss Whedon's assistant and did good work on both those shows, so I'm good with this showrunner change, but I wish we weren't just dropping everything going ahead.

Queen Latifah having some sort of involvement is just odd.

Maybe they're going for more of a Get Out vibe. :o

The show is basically cancelled. Almost none of the people involved with the previous two seasons are involved anymore. It's a completely new show. All they kept was the name.

Otherwise known as a reboot.

The move to reboot is just so baffling though. What is accomplished by it? Season 2 ended on a cliffhanger. The Halloween movie doubled down on said cliffhanger. Now MTV is rebooting? It just doesn't make sense.

Ratings wise, this show is on life support. Is a reboot really going to bring in this huge new audience that'll save the show? Probably not. If anything, it will hurt ratings as you are pissing off the people who were invested in the first two seasons and are cautious to reinvest in a completely new story as there is no guarantee of closure, considering MTV has given the middle finger to those seeking closure from season 2's cliffhanger. I fall into that category. That is to say, why would I watch a new plot, and invest my interest in that, when I have no guarantee that MTV won't just end it on a cliffhanger again and then either reboot or (more likely) cancel the show all together?

The only way a reboot pulls in a new audience is if MTV is bringing in Ghostface and doing a sequel series to the movie. That seems highly unlikely. As such, the smart move would've been to just burn out six episodes, wrap up the story; and cancel this. Or hell, even just cancel it outright. As it is, MTV picked the one option that guarantees them the lowest possible ratings.

“Season three revolves around Deion Elliot, a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.”

The new cast includes Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), RJ Cyler (I’m Dying Up Here), Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why), Jessica Sula (Recovery Road), rapper Tyga (aka Michael Ray Stevenson), C.J. Wallace and Giullian Yao Gioiello (Julie’s Greenroom).

Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) serves as the franchise’s third showrunner and executive produces alongside new arrivals including Queen Latifah, Shakim Conpere and Yaneley Arty for Flavor Unit Entertainment. They join original exec producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein for Dimension TV, the late Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad.

“Scream’s” six-episode third season will air as a three-night event in March on MTV. A specific premiere date has not yet been announced."

If they were going back to the original Ghostface mask, it would have been cool for this mini-season to be tied to the Prescott murders/mystery somehow.

I hope it is. At least a mention of it. I feel like that's most likely to happen, anyway. I think it would be weird to bring back the iconic mask but not have any mention of the events of the films.

This show got one hell of a cast upgrade in the reboot (minus tyga).

And now Tony Todd just joined the cast. I was kind of surprised this was actually filming, I thought it was dead.
