Not a thread I expect will be that long... :funny:

Ten years ago the mere mention of three big screen versions of Batman at the same time would probably have caused laughter and ridicule in the WB boardroom, and yet we've recently had a situation with Affleck, Keaton, and Pattinson playing the role concurrently.

Which got me thinking... How many other times have there been multiple big screen versions of a character running at the same time? It happened twice with Bond (with the non-canon Casino Royale (1967) and Never Say Never Again). I can't think of any others (I'm not talking public domain characters, such as Sherlock Holmes, Dracula). And those Bond movies were from rival companies, whereas all three Batman characterisations were under WB/DC.

Have there been other instances of more than one actor being 'the current' [insert name of character]?

I mean, if you're counting Affleck and Keaton as 'the current Batman', then obviously Spider-man No Way Home counts just as much. Plus there are also the successful Spider-verse movies with a bunch more versions of Spider-man (Yes, in animation, but with way more popularity and exposure than the typical superhero animation).

Also, I don't know if you'd consider this a 'character', but there's Godzilla as well. The tri-star movie technically came out during a break in Toho releases, but it was only 3 years after the last heisei era movie and Toho started their new millenium series the year after Tri-star's movie came out (the Tri-star Godzilla also had a cartoon series which therefore overlapped the Millenium series but on the small screen). And Toho's Shin Godzilla came out smack dab in the middle of the currently ongoing Legendary series. Plus Toho did an anime trilogy around the same time and there's a new Toho movie (G minus 1) coming out next month with the next film in the Legendary series set for next summer.

That is interesting!

well, you said "big screen" but the first thing to came to mind was that Smallville was still going when Superman Returns came out... and more recently we had Supergirl/ Superman & Lois version of Superman, at the same time as the DCEU Superman (then of course, Superman Returns actor and Smallville actor also re-appearing as multiverse versions of Superman)... but if were counting movie/big screen adoptions, alone

I guess we did have the 3 different Bruce Banner/Hulks, that were only semi-cannon each with different actors... tho, these didn't over lap (each being 4-5 years apart) but, still, having 3 different Hulks with in 10 years is kinda wild
