Is it just me, or was 1999 the year when music was at it's crappiest? There was the whole pop invasion, but other than that I don't really remember any good music at that time.

It seems like the Boybands and pop princesses killed any good mainstream music...Now everything seems to be over saturated with faux grunge bands, and all this.."emo" stuff. Like Falloutboy, simple plan and all that junk Which still are basically boybands.

interesting albums from '99:

Midnite Vultures - Beck
13 - Blur
Surrender - Chemical Brothers
Euphoria Morning - Chris Cornell
Metropolis, Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory - Dream Theater
The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips
In a Reverie - Lacuna Coil
Come On Die Young - Mogwai
The Fragile - Nine Inch Nails
Live Aus Berlin - Rammstein
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Ágætis Byrjun - Sigur Rós

Indeed. I happen to quite like all those bands listed, though I have never heard of Lacuna Coil or Mogwai..
Didn't know Sigur Ros has been around since the 90's though..shame on me.:ninja:

If you can't find any "good music" now or in any time period, you're just not looking hard enough. There has always been and always will be great music, available to all, if you make a little effort.

I've got both..

tsk tsk... shame on me  I LIKE the boy bands... all those cute little tushies shaking around the dance floor... ;)

1999 revolutionized society. If you like your life, be thankful for 1999. If you're miserable, blame 1999.

CDs from 1999 in my iTunes library:
Christina Aguilera - Christina Aguilera
The Ataris - Blue Skies, Broken Hearts... Next 12 Exits
Lou Bega - A Little Bit of Mambo
Blink 182 - Enema of the State
Blue Man Group - Audio
Dr. Dre - Chronic 2001
Eiffel 65 - Europop
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Incubus - Make Yourself
Le Tigre - Le Tigre
Moby - Play
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication

the stupid boy bands.. master p and is stupid ass music....

Yeah.. I couldn't wait for 1999 to be over... but if I remember correctly 2000 wasn't much better either.

And Lou Bega can suck a d**k for that horrible song of his. :(

Mogwai are a Scottish band and i aint ever heard of them till 3 or 4 months ago what's that all about?! I still have never heard any of there stuff!

If you preficed "music" with "popular" or "chart topping" you'd have a more cogent argument.

Pavement's last album Terror Twilight came out in '99. So it wasn't just badness.

also:

There Is Nothing Left To Lose - Foo Fighters
The Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips
Do the Collapse - Guided By Voices
The White Stripes - Self Titled
Clarity - Jimmy Eat World (a rare example of greatness that could be considered Emo)
The Battle of Los Angeles - Rage Against the Machine

but yeah, even with all those good tunes it still might have been the worst. It was the year in between the first 2 'Queens of the Stone Age' albums, and they're probably the greatest saviors of rock to come along in the past 8-9 years. Also in between 'The Living End' albums, 'Better Than Ezra' albums and 'Creeper Lagoon' albums, a few bands I really depended on at that time for relief from new music crappiness.

Don't put words any my mouth. I never said there wasn't anymore "good music"
What I meant was, there's hardly anymore good mainstream music. At least, that's what it seems like.

i'm not gonna go there with your mom....

but I'm pretty sure many went "there" with her already. :D

God I hate music threads. Somebody make a thread about something worth talking about.

My mom bought ME that CD.

My parent's tactics for birthday presents were going to the CD store and asking what a boy of whatever age I was turning at the time would like.

This also got me many NOW! volumes and even a Backstreet Boys CD :csad:
