First I'll start this off by saying the first music video I ever saw was Michael Jackson's thriller. It was at a friend's house and he was showing me all his tapes and one had thriller on it. That was an amazingly cool video so from then on I was not only an MJ fan 4 life but really got my first taste of how cool music videos could be, and in later years that lead to an interest in MTV.

I look back and remember alot of really cool music videos like MJ's thriller that were wacky and fun, from backstreet boys to blink 182, I liked them all. My favorite on the channel was Missy elliot's videos. She always does something very unique.

But my interest started to wane around the time the Thong Song video came out. I liked it, it was fun and everyone was saying "let me see that thooooo ooooo ooooooooong" at school, but that's really when I started to see the decline in more quality vids. I think it's sort of weird how the last musicvid I remember seeing before just not really caring anymore, was MJ's You rock my world vid. Not that there wasn't plenty before, but now when I go to my sister's house and watch her cable and I turn to the MTV or the BET, it's sex sex sex, thong thong thong, booty booty booty in almost every vid. Has anyone else noticed this? I don't mind some sexy booty now and then but I think we're getting too much.

So I ask since I really am having trouble finding them. What vids have you seen lately that are really good? Not just those with lots of booty in them. I'm starting to feel old being put-off music vids by all the booty, but it's undeniable. I like my music vids to emphasize unique artistic visions and physical expression through music...

thank you for your time.

er....stop listening to poppy rap music and you'll find plenty of good music videos, it's not difficult

You know WHY it's sex sex thong thong thong.

It's because it's designed towards a certain target audience.

Everyone knows that a stereotypical look at R n' b shows us that the music lovers want to live a rich lifestyle with girls with big booties.

Trust me, I've studyed about it class. :o

all I have to do is watch the VMA's to realize how ****ed up music is today... like those emo *******s who go around wearing eyeliner and ****.... AFI or some **** like that.

****ing horrible. muther**** them and their mothers.

Dude, those Emo punks stole the thick eyeliner from 80's Thrashers, especially the female Metal artists.

I listen to all kinds. At my mom's business on the radio everyday the station plays that "your beatiful" song, so I looked for it online on youtube and wow it's a weird vid, but still a cool song. I'm just wondering whether there are more like that that don't pander to the TNA cravers all the time. I like TNA, don't get me wrong, but I'm also interested in more than that.

And Lee, it's very common on tv to see rappers portrayed that way, yes. I love Rap and there are many very good ones who are overshadowed by that steryotypical Pimp daddy thing. I haven't seen a booty-less rap video in a long long time actually.

Well most singers/bands of today are lousy, so it's only fitting that most videos are too.

I was about to post something in agreement with the thread starter, but then I saw that they actually liked Backstreet Boys and Missy Elliott music videos...

Cha'mon! What's wrong with the Backstreet boys. boybands have been a part in music industry for a long long long time and I thought they made some quality stuff. I've only seen a few of Missy's vids. Another rapper I liked around the same time as her was Busta Rhymes. his vids were pretty cool.

But I'm really out of touch with today's stuff. I'm still in the 90s as far as my expectations go.

Hahaha

I hear ya though, music videos today truly are ALL the same. Very boring. It's either girls in a club, a stripclub, or on the street. And the guys are drinking alcohol or flashin money or their chains. Oh, and for the summer time: gotta have girls on the beach or by the pool.

DO NOT LISTEN TO POPULAR MUSIC

Tool has consistantly put out really stunning music videos, as has Bjork, The White Stripes and Beck. Smashing Pumpkins put out some great videos but they broke up in 2000...but are back together now...sort of.

Me loves this video.

I think there's an equal ratio of good music video's and the other lot with all the booty and gangsta thing. It's just that the good ones don't get recognised as much.

Music videos are not of the same quality that they once were. Many of them are the same, and practically the only ones MTV plays are hip hop videos, and the rock that the radio plays. Fuse is alright, though.

Here's my advice. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE RADIO OR WATCH MTV TO FIND GOOD MUSIC. USE THE INTERNET.

I've been able to find find thousands of artists that I like through the internet, and that's one thing that Myspace is really great for. When you find music you like, get it off Limewire. And listen galore.

You can even find some good music videos that aren't aired on TV.

I agree that MySpace is great for finding music. Most of my MySpace friends are bands. YouTube is a great place to find music videos too. And about the radio, I can't speak for other cities, but there are some good stations in Austin. The public radio station, ran by the university, plays a lot of good stuff that certainly isn't mainstream. And then we have a station that plays a lot of what I would call Americana music that isn't played on other stations. Even the main rock stations have specific shows that showcase local music and new music from bands nobody's heard of. And then there's Little Steven's Underground Garage. It's broadcast at around 9 or 10 till midnight on Sundays I believe. It plays exactly what the title suggests. Austin is a very music-centric city.

If I'm in the mood for vids, I usually wait till late friday night to watch The Wedge on Much Music. The vids they play then are pretty cool, lots of stuff from the UK and retro.

I usualy don't listen to radio but when I do, I love that show and The History of New Music with Alan Cross on the Edge (canada) I've been getting into music history for a while now and his show is pretty cool. :)
