I forgot which issue number,m but in Uncanny X-men, Husk says that because of the "X" gene, mutants can't get AIDS. I meant to post this before but it slipped my mind. Anyway, thats pretty amazing.

yeah.. that was a bit weird :S im not entirely sure why they dont.

It's absolutely ******ed. Basically, Chuck Austen wrote it in so he could have an easy out with Warren bleeding on people to heal them. He never bothered to come up with an explanation, he simply said "Mutants don't get AIDS."

Plus, well... his background is in pornographic comedy, so I'm sure he wanted an excuse to write some sexual promiscuity.

*sigh*....Chuck Austen.....how that got through editorial is beyond reason....

You know how Marvel's editorial policy is these days. Throw massive amounts of crap at the wall and see what sticks.

I heard actually that Austen didn't make that up, but that he was following contuinity in this case. Established in that X-Factor mini between the first and the latest?

Yep thats true, he didn't come up with it, he was just using what was already in continuity. Im sure this is mentioned most times that this comes up for discussion, but why pass on an opurtunity to bash him some more.

I think that Hank say it in a repulsive way, like Aids is for someone inferior, and that's discrimination, like Magneto, cosidering Mutants superior.

Exactly....sigh...why Marvel... It's just stupid to me. That idea shouldn't have even came up...although it could help..it's still too cheesy.

Then where did it come from? I never heard anything about it before he brought it up and I've been reading since 1991.

for me that commentary is not literal, but but simply a repulsive statement.

Just incase anyones interested, heres Austens original feedback from back in the old days when it was first brought up...

This is funny to me. This was intended to be a throw away line, taken from continuity, to explain why Warren isn't afraid of giving or getting AIDs to those folks out there who wonder about such things.

People are all up in arms about it, but it's established in continuity, and it's also been established that the mutants DO INDEED, contrary to comments by other posters, have a different immune system.

Or does anyone remember the Legacy virus that only infected mutants?

And as to your question, sinestro, the way we look at it is that the X-gene makes them impervious to this particular retrovirus. It stops the AIDs virus from interfering with the genetic makepup of the cell at at genetic level, therefor not making it a potential cure for humans, either.

But this cellular level difference will also come into play with Warren's healing facotr and what he can and cannot heal.

What happened to Warren for his name to be mentioned in there? What is the Legacy Virus? And I guess it does sort of makes sense, but it's still alittle cheesy.

Ahh... the Legacy Virus that only infected mutants... and Moira McTaggert...

Warren used(or still does) to have healing blood.

Wait, so where was it originally mentioned?

I dunno. Mabe in the 90's or something I guess.

I heard in that X-Factor mini, but not sure.

This seems to confirm, although Austen apparently thought it to be a literal statement.

right... ive managed 2 find the old X-Factor limited series.. I thought it was about time we got to the bottom of this situation once and for all.

Reading it again now, and it was a really bad series.. so yall owe me lol
