When I start up my 360, it makes a REALLY loud humming noise. It stops for a second and then starts up again and keeps humming when I'm on the main screen. It doesn't stop until I got to my arcade game (haven't tried anything else).

Anyone know what's up?

I kinda expected that.

How long does it take for MS to repair a 360 if I send it back? I just want to get another 3 weeks use out of it since I'm home.

It takes about a week or so to get the box that you ship it in, then about 2-3 weeks for microsoft to repair the 360 and send it back.

I bought my 360 late June/early July 2006. So am I still covered by a warranty or do I have to pay? If so, how much will it cost?

If it gets the red rings Microsoft will do it for free, I'm not exactly sure about the price if it is anything else.

I just called support. The woman on the phone said it might be the fan. She said I should plug it into the wall and not a surge protector since the 360 has a built in one (I've had mine plugged into a surge protector since I got it).

Repairs would cost $99+state tax since my warranty is up. I get a 1 year warranty after that. I'll see how it is before I go back to school. I may just send it out then instead of waiting for it to break.

Don't know why I didn't think of trying this earlier, but my 360 only makes the noise when I have a game in and I'm on the dashboard. When no game is in, it's fine.

When I had MLB 2k7 in, the noise is really loud. I just put in Lego Indiana Jones and the noise is much lower and tolerable. Might vary from game to game.

If it plays fine, don't bother sending it back.

Sometimes my 360 (after I powered it on) would make a huge noise like the fans went ballistic or something, but thankfully it usually died down. This past weekend, I had a scare when I moved my 360 to my living room because after I hooked up all the cables, my 360 displayed 3 (out of 4) red corners of a circle, and I couldn't power it on. After disconnecting and reconnect the power cord, the problem went away, but I definitely thought to myself "Oh ****, my 360 had died after owning it for less than a month).

The loud humming has stopped. I think it have been from not using the 360 for a long time. Also the MLB 2k7 disc might have been causing the loud noise; other discs have not done the same.
