I was trying to listen to some music that I've ripped onto my computer and this error came up, I use winamp, if that helps.

I haven't installed any new hardware, and nothings changed on my computer.

from another site -

i had the same problem today.. i went in to the options sectionand under plugins, in th output area i saw the out_ds.dll file was there.. you have the ability to change the properties of the specified dll.. after looking thru the options, i found that it had changed my soundcard setting, from my soundcard to a generic name.. i switched it back to my soundcard and got no problems.. no more error.. just thought i would pass the info along..

So I wondered if I could play music with another mp3 player, and I tried it with another album to see if one of the albums were corrupted. I just got this.

It claims that there's something wrong with my sound system, but I've done nothing to it.

I hate to sound like a dumb ass but where is that?

Have you tried installing the newest sound drivers for your computer? They can easily be found on your computer manufacturer's website.

I had some problems with my laptop a while back and took it somewhere for repairs. They ended up reinstalling windows.

After getting it back, I soon found out that my computer had no sound. I got errors while trying to play music because, basically, my computer didn't know it had speakers.

I installed the latest sound drivers and it worked fine after that.

Crap, I can't find when I searched for programs, and I can't find it the control panel. I feel like a dumb ass.

Update, I've found the device manager. But I can't find anything that's titled "plugins".

START
RUN
Type in dxdiag

Goto sound tab

Run a test

It says that there was no sound driver found. How do I fix that?
I still don't know how this happened...

go back to you device manager then.

Start
My computer
System info (on the left near the top)
Hardware tab
Device manager

Scroll down to sound click the pluss button
If one of those has a yellow ! in a triangle right click on it and click update driver (do this while on the net) and it will look for new drivers for it.

If not you soundcard could have blown up

Yeah thats the one. no errors

Best thing to do is uninstall and reinstall winamp. some .dll files may have gone walk about

I just realized that this was probably a response to my post. the plugins section that I mentioned is in Winamp itself, not Device Manager.

OK, I found the Plugins folder, and I've found out_ds.dll. But I haven't figured out output.
