My Issue with "New Goblin"

Harry's character development was handled quite appropriately, I had no problems with it. As hooper said, if any character was in need of proper development it was Sandy or Venom(specifically the latter). The look of the new Goblin costume is a whole different story, so I won't even get into that.

Here's what should have happen:

After the musical when Harry left blew off Peter, we go back to Pete and MJ. After that scene, we should have cut to Harry's Mansion. There in his father's lab, Harry is getting drunk and just plain lost. He's conflicted about his feeling and doesn't know how to handle the situation. Then in a drunken stupor, he either accidentally hits something or spills his bottle that triggers the Goblin Gas to go off. He freaking out, and Norman's voice comes back, stronger, completing the psychotic breakdown. Then, Harry mind becomes more clear and realizes his father's mission and understands the need to take his revenge.

Or something to that effect. Nothing more that a 5 mins scene at max.

so...he becomes the new goblin on accident?

that kind of defeats the whole purpose. it was enver meant to be an accident. it was a deliberate choice harry made from the moment his father died, to get even with spider-man. the conflicthing "i dont know if i should do this or not" was in spider-man 2.

I would have liked to see Harry working to improve the gas, much like the comics. As it is, he pretty much used the same stuff his dad did....only, wasnt it supposed to drive you looney tunes like Norman? Besides the strength and stuff...it really didnt seem to affect Harry's mind at all.

They said in the first movie the formula's insanity side effect was a 1/8 aberration.

Not an accident per say, because the gas would just bring out the side that more focused on revenge. And if you think about it, in Spidey1, Norman becomes the Goblin "by accident" too.

Yes, but in Spidey 1 it's said that the insanity only happened in 1 out of the 8 test subjects Norman and Stromm experimented on. So that means in Harry's case he didn't have to go crazy.

The only thing I would have changed with Harry's story was the (infamous) butler scene. That was the one HUGE flaw that stuck out like a sore thumb.

Other than that, I thought that Harry was handled extremely well. He was probably my favorite character of the entire movie.

my two only issues with Harry's character were the moment he remembered everything again, which I thought was a little bit forced (I would have liked to see him being some kind of tortured by visions of his father before rememebering everything again) and the buttler scene, because I thought it would have been more appropriate for Harry too figure that it was his father who was doing wrong things on his own and not because the buttler told him

Didn't have any problems with Harry's development. He was perfect in this one.

I really felt bad for Harry, his character got such a ****ty wrap up.

Spidey 1 set him up as a friend and integral part of Peter Parker's life. Great!

Spidey 2 showed him taking the reins of his fathers company and becoming a bitter, vengeful man. And the discovery of the lab/crazy smile at the wedding might be the best cliffhanger for a character ever.

All beautifully set up until Spidey 3. It's like they said 'Alright, Sandman and Venom. ****, what? Harry? Oh yeah. Ummmm......'

Wtf? Harry had way more screentime than Sandman or Venom in the movie.

The only thing you could really nit-pick would be the far-too-convienient-for-everyones-liking speech by Harry's butler to set him up for the battle royale.

Other than that, theres nothing else really.

The only thing I didn't like about "new goblin" was his costume. I didn't expect a Green Goblin close(I did like the Sky Stick),but a little more of a goblin or "monster" mask would've been nice.

Agreed, I really liked his costume, but his mask should have been some kind of a goblin mask.

Thats the exact same reason why Harry became the Goblin in the comics and yet he still wore his fathers costume.
Im not saying he should have worn it in the movie, but at least something more goblin like.

True, but he still used his father's weapons. He's listed as "New Goblin" so he still should have had a goblin mask, if not for any other reson than to strike fear into Pete's heart.

^He's not Batman. He wants to kill Pete. End of story. Norman wanted to take over the City. Harry didn't. Harry was personal. Once he would've killed Pete, he'd of retired from being this "New Goblin", unless Norman thought otherwise. But they're both dead. So...yeah.
