The opening scene involves a man, in a brown trench coat walking through the park...During which there is a voice over about how genetics determine who we are, what we are capable of...that genetics are all powerful. We have no idea who this V.O. is...suddenly the man in the park bumps into an old man...a familiar one....Magneto. The man in the trench coat walks off, pocketing a needle as he does...but stops...suddenly the chess pieces and all the metal in the park are rotating around the old man...Magento's powers have returned. The man in the trenchcoat turns, revealing black and red eyes...it is none other than Gambit. He walks off.
The ending scene takes place in the ruins of the Alklai lake complex. Gambit is reporting to someone that everything has gone entirely as planned. All you can see of whom he is talking to is glowing red eyes. He reports that Magneto's return has brought Scott Summers out of hiding and reports that he has returned to the X-men. The man steps out of the shadows, revealing himself...Nathanial Essex...Mister Sinister. He says that with Summers back in the picture his plan can continue. Gambit tells him that he shouldn't underestimate the X-men, he has seen them in action, they are a force to be reckoned with. Sinister smirks and says that he has an ace in the hole...the camera pans...to an imprisoned Professor Xavier, unconscious...and next to him...the corpse of Jean Gray.
